WHO: Allura, Karamatsu, & Yuuri
WHERE: Oros
WHEN: Feb 1st (potentially through the 4th)
WHAT: Part of the Oros evacuation plot; it's time to help the Trilk and Feks to safety.
WARNINGS: possible mentions of death/destruction of a planet/will update further if necessary
[She may not have been in the best of moods when rounding up the first two people who approached her looking to help the Trilk and Feks on the doomed planet down below. In fact, her anger towards the situation is all but palpable, her gaze steely and unflinching, how quick she was to head over to the Eluvio after being denied the ability to land her ship onto the planet to try to save as many lives as possible.
The Eluvio and its mission to retrieve the relic had doomed an entire planet to die, and its crew cared about the chaos of trying to save as many lives as possible. It doesn't sit well in her gut, but now is not the time to sit and stew. Every tick is another second wasted, and there isn't any time.
She's at the controls of the cargo ship, expertly easing it into the planet's atmosphere and searching for a safe place to land and escort the frightened Trilk and Fek to safety. But she had been in such a rush to make it down to the planet that she realized...she may need to talk to the members of her crew.
She doesn't look away from the control, calling back to Karamatsu and Yuuri.]
Do you two have any experience with rescue missions? We'll need a plan for when we land.

Really, he just wants to look cool and come back alive.
The rush to the cargo ships had Karamatsu spotting anyone that looked familiar, and once he caught sight of Yuuri, he had made a casual advance to him and... just.. wouldn't leave him alone.
After catching sight— a lingering sight— probably from head to toe— of Allura heading to the cargo ships, he followed, chattering (and tugging) at Yuuri to keep him by his side. Why? We're not exactly sure.. probably because he thinks he is friends with Yuuri by now.
Before he knows it, he's in a ship with somebody he feels he can trust, and.. somebody who is nice to look at. As much of a klutzy doofus as he can be, the firm look on his face indicates that, yes, he realizes the importance of his mission.
however... ]
I am constantly on the lifelong mission of rescuing fragile hearts, and showing them what it is like to really experience love.
[ so.. no. He's never done this. He doesn't know what to do. Good luck. ]

Yuuri glances at Karamatsu, just a little puzzled. Though he's admittedly surprised that his tentative friend is volunteering for this, who is he to judge when he has little practical skills himself?]
I haven't been on a rescue mission either, but I was part of the group who met with the Fek a couple weeks ago. [Knowing Allura has the experience and skills for this, Yuuri has no problem letting her take the lead.] What do you think we should do, princess?
no subject
Well, his response to her question alone is enough to make her expression falter slightly, even if she remains focused on getting the team safely onto the planet. But, the fact that he's on this mission still sends a decent message: a desire to help those in need, and really, with the way the Eluvio is handling this disaster that they set off, this planet needs all the help it can get.
She won't think about how few of the planet's natives they'll be able to help. She's setting that aside for later. Seeming to ignore Karamatsu's comment, she focuses instead on responding to Yuuri.]
Good. I have only researched the Trilk when I had been on Oros with the rest of my group; having someone familiar with the Fek already puts us at an advantage. [There's a pause, both because she is looking at the scanners to determine where the landing zone is, and because...she needs to think.] Well, the planet is in chaos, its denizens desperate. And we...need to realize that we cannot save everyone.
[It hurts to say that, and she swallows thickly.]
But we can try. When we land, we need to work with the Trilk and the Fek. Escort as many as we can into the cargo ship's carrier, then return to the hangar.
If we work quickly, we may be able to return to rescue more.

He's looking out any window he can at the planet below— it's something he's never done before, so it's natural to act scared. It's just the fact he doesn't want anybody to actually know that. ]
How.. cooperative are they? Do you know?
[ one question he is worried about yeah. He remembers Wash saying it was dangerous down here. ]
no subject
Got it. We'll work as quickly as we can on each trip.
[He glances over at Karamatsu now, frowning slightly in thought.] It's... hard to say. The Fek are pretty gentle most of the time. We might have some trouble communicating with them, though. The translators don't work with whatever language they use.
[Then, something else occurs to him, making him straighten with alarm.] Wait, how are we going to reach both of their villages? Aren't they sort of far apart?
no subject
The Trilk are...aggressive. They only seem to cooperate with those of their own species, but much like the Fek it is difficult to communicate with them as well.
[It's...a worrisome thought, but if what she heard is true then the two species will hopefully forgo their differences to cooperate in the face of rescue. Regardless of how bestial they may be, they are still sentient.
And they are still frightened. A thought she buries deep, because otherwise her mind begins to flash back to Altea and it's not something she wants to think of when she needs to focus.]
According to what I have been informed of, many Trilk and Fek have begun to flee their homes in search of safety. I have been given a landing zone which seems to be at the heart of their attempted departure, but we may still need to split up, to cover as much ground as possible.
no subject
Ah, what if we coaxed them towards safety with.. food of some kind if they do not seem cooperative? Pears, for example, or any other food that you may have noticed they enjoy when you came here the first time.
[ pears mean a lot to him....
anyway, he perks up in his seat, scooting towards the end of it so he can be closer to Allura sitting in front of him. ]
Fret not, sweet princess, for I volunteer to be split up with you, as the aggressive refugees may need more help.
no subject
[And then he's shaking his head, just a little amused, if only because he's already had some time to get used to this special brand of flirting.]
I can handle the Fek along if you need another hand. [Yuuri glances at Allura, gauging her reaction and wondering if he should step in.] Do you think they'll all be able to get along while we evacuate them? They were all fighting before.
no subject
What is it with Earthling males??]
I can handle myself with the Trilk just fine, Karamatsu. [There's no guising the edge to her voice as she says it.] In fact, considering the size of the Fek, I would prefer it if you helped Yuuri instead.
[The edge lessens, however, and she speaks more even-toned to Yuuri, glancing back a tick before beginning to pull the cargo ship down for a landing.]
I cannot be sure if they will be able to get along, but I have found common tragedy can bring together even the worst of enemies. We will have to see.
They had a peace treaty, after all. Who's to say they cannot manage it once more?

As you wish, star flower. I will assist Yuuri-san to the most of my ability. Whatever instructions are given, you can rely on me. I believe in us.
[ He'll turn to Yuuri, and with a smile (to hide his fear— I don't know if you noticed, but hiding his vulnerability is a Big Deal.) His hands place on his knees. ]
Direct me, and I will be your lending hand.. your friend.
[ sto..p.
okay so basically, he has no ideas how to help, but it's good.. to know.. how willing he is to help. By the looks of it, though, he'll be assisting Yuuri and Allura will be on her very own.
His fingers grip the side of his seat as the ship begins to descend upon their landing spot, dark brown eyes gazing anxiously out the window again. ]
no subject
We'll have our communicators with us, so we should be able to contact each other if we run into any trouble. [After what happened on his last mission, Yuuri definitely isn't going to naively believe everything will run smoothly this time.
As they start descending, Yuuri happens to glance over at Karamatsu, catching the look on his face.]
Nervous? [He asks quietly, but not so much that Allura would be excluded from the conversation if she wished to join.]
no subject
Then, he waves his hand. There's not a look of cheerful expression on his face. He looks pretty firm, actually. ]
I have rescued many wandering hearts before. I'm sure rescuing the physical body of another creature will be easy.. as long as I give my best.
[ first off, what the fuck does that mean. secondly, this is his way of answering: I've never done this before.
Yuuri will probably catch that if he listens. ]
no subject
As long as we give our best sounds right. And as long as we look out for each other while we're doing this, too.
[He can't quite erase the worried look in his eyes, though, as they finally touch down on Oros. He exhales to calm himself, then glances at Allura for instruction.]
no subject
After all, the Paladins of Voltron had been inexperienced as well. Everyone must start somewhere.
She makes certain of the coordinates of the cargo ship, does an assessment of how many creatures can fit onto the ship.]
For now, it seems we can only fit five altogether on this vessel. [The edge of disappointment is evident on her voice, but she remains firm. She turns to address Yuuri directly. Sorry, Karamatsu, Yuuri's going to be her second for this mission.] Yuuri, both you and Karamatsu will try to retrieve three Fek survivors to bring back to the LZ. I will be escorting two Trilk.
Please keep me informed should anything go wrong. I am responsible for your safety as well.
no subject
Which means, to Karamatsu, she cares. Ohhhh, boy. His body warms slightly, mostly because that kind of assurance is comforting, but it also eliminates any kind of worry off of his face that he might had allowed to slip through.
Stretching a slight smile on his face, he nods his head once, almost like a bow in Allura's direction. ]
Hm. I think you will be impressed with our work, princess. Yuuri and I have the strength of friendship to help us through this.. together. [ remember how he thinks he and Yuuri are best buds... ]
[ Gingerly and delicately, as if he was holding something valuable, he reaches out and curves his fingers around both of Allura's wrists, somehow keeping his distance but seeming a little closer. ]
We can do it, ah, you can count on us..! Please keep safe.
[ He doesn't linger, thankfully, releasing her and turning to look at Yuuri before asserting himself first to leave the ship.
.. mostly because he's inwardly a sack of rattling nerves and needs to get out of this contained space. ]

Princess, Yuuri-san and I found something we need your help with.
[ well I'll be darned... ]

Keeping an eye on the two aliens in the ship, both beasts magnificent, large, and frightened, backed into the corner of the ship out of fear, she turns to her communicator, sounding a bit out of breath.]
Karamatsu? Is everything all right? Give me your coordinates.
no subject
[ sorry, he yaps a lot.
After messing around with his communicator a bit, he sends the exact location. ]
A—ah, some look pretty hurt. It would be great to have you here when you can.

[ He doesn't know. He's never been in a situation like this. ]
no subject
Okay, I am headed there straightaway with the ship. I will be able to help you rescue survivors from the rubble.
[It probably takes her a good few minutes, plus utilizing some scanners to find a secure landing space but, Allura is true to her word. She exits the cargo, heading towards Yuuri and Karamatsu.
And she looks...a good two feet taller than she usually does.]
no subject
Princess! We've cleared some of the collapsed areas, but we still need help moving these....larger...um, pieces of building. [His voice falters as she gets closer and he ends up having to crane his neck to look up at her.] Did you get...taller?
[She's always been taller than he is, but Yuuri's pretty sure the height difference hadn't been that much earlier.]
