WHO: Luke Skywalker, Son Goku, Nekomaru
WHERE: The Hangar, Oros
WHEN: February 1 - 4ish
WHAT: Rescuing aliens, getting into trouble.
WARNINGS: Nuclear explosions.

Everything seemed to go wrong so quickly. One moment, things had been relatively calm. Boring, even. The next he was being hustled down to the flight deck for some sort of emergency evacuation. From what he'd been told, something was going horribly wrong on the planet's surface His thoughts flash to Leia and for a moment he stretches out, trying to find her, but then he has other things to worry about. No time. He's standing in the expanse of the hangar, staring at the blocky, bulky shape of one of the cargo haulers. It's not what he's used to flying, but he can definitely fly it. They just have to get down there and rescue some aliens. Right?

He doesn't know how many they can save, but he's going to try. he's also going to need help, though. He turns to eye the milling, bustling hangar bay.

"Hey! Anyone need a pilot?"

One larger than life young man was dashing back and forth across the hangar. He didn't know the full details of the situation and felt a little out of his depth, but he was still determined to find a way to help whoever was in need. The only problem was finding a pilot...

But then one announced himself. Almost instantly, Nekomaru turned to face the source of the voice and charged at him like a bearded bull. He's come to a stop just feet away from the man, while shouting loudly all the way:

"A PILOT?! YES, I DOOOOOOO!!!"

"Me! Me!"

Pick him, pick him! The second Goku got the call to action, he raced to the hangar, determined not to miss out this time. The people on the planet were in trouble because of their guys, right? They had to go help! So he's been bouncing around the hangar, from ship to ship looking for someone that might have room for him when he hears Luke offer. Cue one monkey boy sprinting towards Luke and skidding to a halt in front of Nekomaru.

"Take me! I can help!"

Whoa! That was a hell of a reaction. Luke held up his hands with a wry little grin and glanced from Nekomaru to Goku. He'd never met either of them in his life, but they're enthusiastic and that was all he could ask for, right? Not like he had much more than enthusiasm when he strapped into an X-Wing for the attack on the Death Star.

"Alright, alright! I could probably use both of you-" He jerked a thumb at the blocky ship behind him, "Let's get strapped in. I'll have us down there in hot second. Oh, yeah-"

He tipped them both a confident grin, "I'm Luke Skywalker. You?"

Luke must have somehow discovered some Force skill that attracts hot-blooded shounens. It's a good thing he specifies that both of them can come; otherwise, it's likely that they would have immediately broken into an intense spar to decide who goes.

Instead, Nekomaru grins at the proposal and laughs bombastically. "Hahaha! Great! This is just the opportunity I've been looking for!"

Of course, he's not going to waste time. He quickly starts to jog towards the ship, ready to take a seat and buckle up! But as he runs there, he shouts over his shoulder to the others. "My name... is NEKOMARU NIDAI!! And... I call shotgun!!"

Goku grins too, practically bouncing up and down on the spot he's so enthusiastic. Finally some action!

"Thank you!" But this is serious, people seriously need their help, so he calms down a little. "I'm Goku- Son Goku. I can-" Wait, what? Goku's distracted from whatever he was going to say by Nekomaru's bold declaration. "Hey! Wait! That's not fair, I didn't know we were starting!"

Ugh, why does he always have to go in the back? Goku runs over to the ship and climbs on in after Nekomaru. "Luke, tell him it's not fair!"

What have you gotten yourself into, young Skywalker?

"Shotgun...?" Luke calls ahead as he jogs after them. They move pretty damn fast - and they're eager. His smile fades slightly - reminds him a bit too much of Dak. Poor kid. He shakes that thought off and follows the pair inside, ducking through the cargo/passenger area and heading up to the cockpit. There's a main control console and a couple other passenger/co-pilot seats squeezed in with it and Luke immediately starts to strap himself in.

"I don't know what shotgun is, actually. Some sort of weapon?"

Nekomaru guffaws at Goku's response while he tries to strap himself into the most shotgun-looking seat. "Gahahaha! Sorry, but you're a hundred years too early to get this seat!"

Then, he looks towards Luke and explains with less loundess. "It is a weapon, but in this context it means calling dibs on the seat next to the driver. ...Or in this case, the pilot!!"

Goku obediently settles himself in the seat directly behind the pilot chair, grumbling to himself. "I always end up in the back..."

Well, at least this time he gets a seatbelt. That's exciting. He gets over the disappointment pretty quick, leaning forward to try and look out the front window even though they haven't moved yet. "I've never flown before. Is it different than drivin'?"

"Huh. Never heard that before..." Luke mutters as he finishes strapping himself to the ship. He takes a moment to run through the pre-flight checklist, checking over the control panel. It's sort of unfamiliar, but he checks the engines, fuel levels, seals - everything this ship needs to fly.

"Well, yeah. For one thing, you're moving a lot faster. And speeders usually don't hit lightspeed."

Although he doubts this ship can, either. He finally flicks the ignition switch and the cargo hauler rumbles to life around them. He carefully eases it off of the deck and starts a slow approach toward the hangar doors.

"Here we go..."

He looks back towards Goku scoldingly. "Don't resign yourself to that! If you apply yourself properly and don't give up, one day the shotgun can be yours! You can do it!"

Then he turns and braces himself as the ship starts moving. He hopes that his heart can handle this, but he feels that he performed enough warm-up exercises beforehand to handle it.

"Here goes nothing...!"

That's a weird thing to get a pep-talk over, but it makes Goku brighten up. "Okay! On the way back, I can beat you up or something so I can get it!"

Wrong lesson, Goku. He keeps leaning forward in his seat, straining his seatbelt, as they move forward, eager to get going. "What's a lightspeed? Can you dodge it? Hey, let's go really fast!"

This is so exciting!

Luke shakes his head with a wry little laugh as he listens to the two of them go at it. OK, so that's sort of familiar. They sound like him a year or three ago. Or some of his friends on Tatooine. He has to concentrate on flying, though, so he doesn't comment. Instead he nudges the ship forward and out of the hangar. Through the canopy, they can see the smooth curve of the planet below, the way part of it falls into shadow from the distant star of this particular solar system.

There are also little pinpricks of light far below them. It would be pretty if Luke didn't know that those were massive explosions. He rolls the cargo hauler over and into a shallow dive, angling toward the atmosphere. He glances over his shoulder as they start to close the distance.

"Lightspeed is, uh, hyperspace. Let's you get places quickly. We're not going to go that fast, but we're going in full throttle - hang on, this might get bumpy!"

As if on cue, they hit the outer atmosphere and the ship starts to rattle, bumping and jolting as friction and turbulence start to shake the ship.

Get used to it, Goku. There will be many an unusual pep talk to come, and he's always game for spontaneous spars.

Nekomaru braces himself as the ship starts moving. It's an experience that is wholly different from life on the larger ship, and he's stunned by the sights as they move. "IN... INCREDIBLE!!!"

He will then devolve into a series of loud grunts and shouts as the ship moves.

A match made in... somewhere, for sure.

"Woah!" Goku is flung back in his seat from the force once they get moving, but he's quickly leaning forward again to see as much as he can. This really is nothing like driving- well, okay, it's a little bit like when Hakkai decides to have some fun at the wheel. It's still incredibly bizarre looking at a planet from this perspective and Goku is momentarily struck dumb. "Amazing..."

But those lights... It's already started then. Goku grips the back of Luke's seat as the ship starts to shake from turbulence. "Come on, let's go!"

"Hey, this thing can only go so fast...!" Luke shoots back over his shoulder and then glances forward again, wrestling with the controls as another blast of turbulence rocks them back and forth. It only takes a few more minutes for them to get into the lower atmosphere and the shaking and rattling (and friction heat) have mostly dissipated. He scans the landscape as they come in lower.

"Keep an eye out for somewhere to land."

Nekomaru enjoys the thrill of the ride while trying to deal with the turbulence. "Understood!" At Luke's idea, Nekomaru leans towards the nearest viewport to try to get a good luck at the terrain. It's not a pretty sight, although he soon notices one patch of land and tries to indicate it.

"How does that look, over there?"

"We should get somewhere close to people, right? Like a village?"

Gotta keep their eyes on the prize. Goku can't see the actual surface of the planet very well from the angle they're at now, not from behind Luke, but he tries anyway. A village or a city, somewhere full of people that need their help... Granted, there's only so much room on their ship, so that might end up being difficult.

"Ideally! We can't stay on the ground for too long - we don't want to get caught in one of those blasts!" Luke calls back over his shoulder. It's terrible - he feels like he's watching a a planet day. What's worse are the echoes he's feeling in the force. How had Obi-Wan described it? As if a million voices cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. It just isn't happening all at once. As the ship loops over and the ground below turns from indistinct shapes to sharper mountains and fields and forests, he's noticeably paler and there's a sheen of sweat on his forehead. It's taking all of his concentration to shut out the echoes of dying aliens and a dying planet and still keep the cargo ship in the air

"Just - hold on."

There's a smaller village. They're finally low enough and be angles the bulky cargo vessel in for a landing. He just needs to clear these trees...

Nekomaru nods, agreeing with their reasoning. He keeps on trying to see potential landing spots, but soon the pilot himself catches his eye.

It's easy to see that he looks distressed, and so Nekomaru tries to speak reassuringly as if comforting another athlete. "Stay calm now. You've got this. You can do this!"

Goku isn't sure what's wrong with Luke. He can't really see his face from here, but he can pick up on the distress in his voice and so he joins in with Nekomaru.

"Yeah! We're nearly there! Come on!" He jumps in his seat and looks down at the floor when he hears the tree branches scraping the underside of the ship as they pass over them. "Oh, wow..."

Close, but they're all in one piece so far.

"I've got it, I've got it-!" Luke mutters, half to himself, half to his passengers. And he does have it. The Force is with him, for all that it's also making him feel physically ill from the sheer number of sudden, violent deaths that are going on around him. The ship pulls up to a halt and then finally settles into a clearing close by one of the villages. He waves a hand at them, "OK, go-!"

There might be some branches stuck on the canopy or snapping off the cargo doors open, but it's fine. Everything is fine. Aside from the artificial sunrises on the horizon.

"Got it!" Nekomaru undoes his seatbelt as soon as the ship starts landing, and he rushes outside as quickly as possible to take a quick look around for survivors.

"Is anyone out there?! We come in peace!!"

Goku hurries out after Nekomaru, once he's done fumbling with his seatbelt. He runs out into the clearing towards the houses, and then pauses, looking around intently.

"... It's really quiet." The village feels eerily still even from here, to Goku's heightened senses. "Maybe they're hiding?"

Makes sense. When a bunch of people decide to start setting off bombs, that's what most people would do.

Luke eases out his seat and follows them to the exit ramp. He frowns and eyes their surroundings and then nods at the pair, "I'm going to keep the ship warmed up. We need to be ready to get out of here fast - no telling when someone is going to decide to drop a bomb on us. If you can get them out, comm me-"

He gestures at the communicator, "I can pick you up in no time."

"Got it!" He calls back in response to Luke's assessment. Time for he and Goku's buddy team up! Then he looks around the village thoughtfully.

"They most likely are hiding somewhere, with everything going on... Let's try to spread out and check every home we can for survivors!"
