| 001. ❚ just pretend it's a disco party. with cats. ( 2/14 - locked to wash ) [ This isn't exactly how Clary planned to spend Valentine's Day. She had plans. She had plans for a reason actually, but that's beside the point. She was going to go to a show later that at the ice rink and see figure skating live for the first time. She was going to meet up with Wash and get all the things she needed for her new cat she was going to pick up. Then everything just goes sideways. Literally. They're plunged into darkness, and Clary is pretty certain the sci-fi armageddon she had joked around about was actually going to start happening. Her nyx rune kicked in almost immediately, and she took out her witchlight to give herself more light. It took longer than she cared to admit to to get around, though she's thankful that she wasn't in a room when this all went down. All rooms seemed to be locked as she floats past them. ] Okay.... maybe this is normal.... [ She grunts to herself as she reaches the ceiling with a thud. She groans slightly, turning to wedge her fingers against anything that will give her leverage. She was already on her way to the shelter... Maybe Wash will know something. At the very least she needs to check on him. So with little else to do, she launches herself down the hall, trying to reach the shelter and Wash to help if he needs it. ] 002. ❚ heading down a long path ( 2/15 onwards ) [ As things start to level set on the ship, Clary does her best to wander and try to help where she's needed. After all, she has all these runes and she's no good at tech things. She can try to save people, though, or get them better help if necessary. Really, she just needs something to do to feel as though she's contributing, and there's no use going to work in this environment. She can be found in various places around the ship. a. Maybe saving someone from floating away when the gravity stops functioning again or b. guiding people through the dark when power goes off? c. There are plenty of places to run into her to get help throughout the ship, and she spends most of her days wandering around looking to help anyway. So asking her for assistance doesn't seem like it'd trouble her. d. There's also the potential to end up trapped with her somewhere. Sometimes these doors don't quite work right... If no help is needed, though, Clary may just approach your character. e. She seems genuinely concerned about how you're doing, even going so far as to sit with your character and ask how things are going. She wouldn't mind some friendly conversation, and she seems intent on starting it with someone. So if you need a distraction, she's ready and willing to chat. ] |

Eventually, after getting into his armor, he manages to get to the shelter. Maybe it's a foolish priority, heading down to check on animals when who the fuck knows what's going on with the ship, but those animals are his responsibility and Wash isn't a man to shirk responsibility. If he was, he'd have kissed the Reds and Blues goodbye a long time ago. Figuratively. Definitely not literally.
It's outside the place that he runs—floats into Clary. The motion trackers light up on his helmet's HUD before he actually sees her, but he's got the armor's lights on. It's not long before she's in range of them. ]
Clary! [ Hanging onto a piece of bulkhead with one hand, he lifts the other in greeting. ] Clary! It's Wash!
[ Because he's wearing a helmet and he doesn't want to freak her out. ]
002 - e [Feb. 15] (although maybe it can switch into gravity failure or power)
And that was before everything went to hell. Now with power failures, gravity failures, and door failures, Maes was lucky if he made it out of the resident hall at all. Still, he was trying, because he was NOT about to stop exploring as many places as he could on this ship.
It was just so BIG though, and there seemed to be a new deck or a new hallway every time he went out. Still, he WAS doing it systematically. It wasn't going to be easy, but he was determined -- even with the power failures -- to carry on in some capacity. Which had led him to an idea he wanted to follow up on.
So, on the 15th he could be found browsing the lounge area at the end of one of the residence corridors. Maes was carefully running a finger along the edge of the books on the shelf and pulling down anything that looked remotely related to the topic of "outer space."]
e.
[ problem is, he can't figure out what's a safe location in this new terrain, and so he's at a door that won't budge, trying to slip the tip of his knife between the seams to pull them apart. bellamy's nose is almost pressed against the door as he tries to wedge it in there by using the dull light of his communicator on his wrist to guide him. gritting his teeth, he does his best, as if his mere mortal strength will be enough to pull them apart. ] Come on.

It’s a good thing Clary’s around, because the gravity hiccups right in the middle of a sweet comet combo. He’s too busy futzing with the app to grab on to something— so up he floats, brain catching up with the situation after a few seconds in the air. He scrambles for something to grab on to 100% ungracefully and unsuccessfully.]
Hoooly crap no not again—!

So when she spots him, it's just as he's found her, and lets out a heavy sigh of relief.
She lets her propulsion from her last push take her nearly the rest of the way too him, grabbing onto the bulkhead to avoid running right into him. ]
Wash! I was hoping I'd find you here. [ She holds her light up carefully so as to see him better and not blind him all at once. ]
Is this normal? Do you know what's happening? [ Should she be expecting space to go like this, or is her near panic completely justified? ]
no subject
Instead she does a lot of what she thinks of as "patrolling" in a sense. Really, she just keeps her eyes out for anyone seems to need any sort of physical help. It's the most she can really do, which actually does seem to come in use when things keep breaking still. She has a strength run slapped on with some night vision, and both have come in handy in the past.
While wandering, she can't help but notice the way Maes is carefully looking through the books and making a pile of them.
She tilts her head, watching as he looks for more. ]
Building a personal library? [ She teases. ]

At least she's got her nyx rune, which is how she spots Bellamy down the hall as he tries to get the door apart. ]
Need some help? [ She offers as she gets closer, trying to speak up before she startles him in the dark as well. ]
no subject
She's close enough she latches onto the chair with one hand, grabbing his ankle with her other hand to help try to prevent him floating off too far and hitting his head. ]
Guess we're doing this again.
Hi, I'm Clary by the way. [ She shoots up a grin, trying not to lose her grip on the chair. ]

Except that the lights had gone off. The gravity had gone off. Systems had gone down. And Clary was on this ship, in the middle of it all.
The weird thing is, Jace feels more like himself than he has on any day here so far. Everything's going to hell. Everyone's life has just gotten immeasurably harder, and yet for Jace, it's almost useful. It gives him a focus he'd been lacking. People are in trouble. Bodyparts have been turning up all over the ship. There's something dangerous stalking these halls, something from which these people need protecting. And something which needs hunting.
So Jace treats it like any other mission. He's alert, using his runes to keep him seeing, moving, and functioning when others cannot. As the ships systems come back on, his attention turns to seeking whatever's been after them all. So far, he's met a dead end. When Clary comes up to him, he's in the atrium, looking for anything that's been missed. He's not surprised to see her. He'd looked for her after all the systems had failed, and once he'd seen she was safe, he'd put space between them again. Every day, he'd checked on her, but always from a distance. It was only a matter of time until she caught up with him, really. ]
If you're looking for whatever left that box lying around, you're out of luck. [ He says, by way of greeting. ] There's nothing to see.
no subject
[ taking a step away from the door, he looks up at it, as if checking to see it's as tall as it is or if it's budged at all at his attempts to pry. ] It's no use. [ his voice is gruff. he looks over his shoulder at her, expression one of all business and determination, ] This door's not going to open. We should find another one.
no subject
Not that I know of. I've been here—[ He pauses for a few seconds as he calculates the time. ]—about two months and this hasn't happened before.
[ It would be nice to be able to say that he thinks it's nothing, but Wash isn't very optimistic these days. It probably isn't nothing. It's probably something. And with his luck, something awful. He doesn't say that, though. ]
I heard that a ship exploded. I'm not sure which one or why it would knock the power out of this one, but maybe that's got something to do with it. You hear anything?
no subject
Jughead. [And she sighs, clipping is communicator onto a belt. Security!] This is great, huh? Can't wait until we hit some kinda wormhole and get some time travel errors going. That way I can finally tell my younger self that thinking low gravity is cool makes him a tool.
no subject
Still seems pretty bad.
She shakes it off, then shakes her head a little more firmly. ]
I haven't heard anything yet. I was on my way to come see you when all of this hit.
I didn't really know where else to go... I still don't really know my way around this ship well enough.
no subject
She steps up to the door, trying to find a grip between the middle. ] I know I may not look it, but I'm stronger than I seem.
no subject
It's when the gravity comes back on and you're on the ceiling.... [ She cringes a little bit. Maybe a bit too close to home.
She's using the chair to try to pull them back, nearly groaning with the strain of it. Once she's close enough, she gets behind the chair to use it to anchor herself as she holds him. Feet pressed against the back of it, his floating at an angle works for her to keep her pressed against the chair at the right angle that she doesn't just slip on past it again. ]
Give me your hand! I think I can get you down here now.
no subject
[ Whatever's happening on the ship, she doesn't want to say it's not to do with her, but she's not the best person for the job. She's very aware of her skills and talents, and when it comes to Shadowhunting she's still too new to it all. She's more qualified to help everyone else get through this, especially when systems break down at random.
But then there's Jace...
She stands behind him, slightly awkward as she watches him. ]
How have you been doing? Since... all of this happened?
no subject
Research. I wasn't planning to necessarily take them all back, but a guy has to start somewhere in understanding all of this.
[He set his latest find on top of the stack and held out a hand. Hand shakes were still a thing, right?]
Maes Hughes.
no subject
[Which isn't very long, he'll admit, but surely it's worth something. He grabs for Clary's hand, and is even actually successful after a few tries. Keeping himself from getting stuck on the ceiling is now top priority.]
no subject
Of course she wants to know how he is. He wants to know how she is, too. He wants to know that she's safe, that she's coping, that she's okay. ]
I'm fine, Clary. [ He says that as if he's impatient with the question. He's not, but he doesn't want to talk about himself. ] Nothing I couldn't handle. How are you?
[ He nods back the way she'd come. ] I've seen you helping people. It's a good thing.
no subject
[ octavia's the smallest, most slender person he knows, and he's certain she would be able to move that boulder no one, not even the strongest, most formidable warrior of the grounders, could ever hope to move. judging a book by it's cover is a lesson he learned when he was younger. the strongest people are often the ones everyone else looks past. ]
[ he looks her over, ignoring the cheer she seems to hold. he's not quite assessing her for the markings on her that seem almost grounder-like, but he's searching to see how determined she really is. and once he discerns that it's the level of determination he often sees on clarke, he focuses on the task at hand. ]
I don't know if it's going to open. [ he looks at the door, then tries to pry his fingers into the gap. ] I thought about shooting it, but I don't want anyone to be alarmed.
no subject
She shrugs partially. ] It's all I really can do. The technology here is all... pretty advanced. Even compared to the stuff we used to see at the Institute.
[ A pause. Her head lilts slightly to the side. ] Are you any good with tech anyway? I know Izzy was usually the scientist, but I've never really seen you mess with any of it that much.
no subject
Finally she manages to get him close enough to the chair he should be able to grab. ]
There. I think that should do it.
Maybe use a belt to try to hold you down?
no subject
Glad to see you're up an about. [ She smiles as she shakes his hand. It's a little odd to her, but she's still young. She doesn't mind though. ]
What are you trying to research?
no subject
And she's grateful for the chance.
She walks up to the door, sliding her fingers at the seams. ]
If we can just get something to slide into here to wedge it, even a little, I can pry it open I think. I have my strength rune activated. Hasn't failed me yet.
no subject
[ He keeps his voice calm. It might be a catastrophe. It might not be. Either way, he knows that panicking isn't going to help the situation. Not when the gravity's shot and the power's out. ]
Once we figure out what's going on, we'll make sure you know your way around, okay?
[ Too little to late for right now, but if there's ever another emergency—and if they don't die because of this Wash assumes that there will be—he hopes she won't be so at a loss. Nodding toward the door to the shelter, he slowly makes his way over to it. ]
Came down here because I figured the cats could use a little help. Want to teach them how to handle zero-g with me?
no subject
Yes. I remember you. Nice to finally meet you in person then.
[Once the handshake is done he stands back, he certainly doesn't look quite as pale any more.]
They can't keep me down too long -- especially not with all of this stuff to poke around at. [He glanced over his shoulder at the books.]
Well...good question. I started with books on space in general...then I started pulling books on space travel and gravity. Not sure I'll actually understand any of it, but it seemed liked a place to start...
no subject
Belt holds me, I hold communicator! Not a bad idea/ [And he does start working to get himself tied down. Suck it, gravity.] That was a very daring rescue, by the way. A life debt might be owed-- especially since my high score is still in place.
no subject
[ Jace tilts his head, lifting his eyes up to her. ]
Not this kind of tech. It’s way beyond what I know.
[ What either of them know, really. He stands straighter, folding his arms over his chest. ]
That side of things isn’t my focus. I’m best on the field. I’ll leave the forensics to Izzy, she’s the one who knows what she’s doing. We all have our skills.
