[With the Ice Palace finally ready for opening, Yuuri figures it's a good time to make good on the plans they'd made with Shiro and Allura before the Oros missions. Besides, with things having gone south so quickly, he hopes that spending a little time together might help lift their spirits. If anything, it'll be a good way to break in some of the rental skates he's commissioned.]

Just find a size you think will work for you. You can always swap for another pair if they don't fit. [He tells Shiro and Allura before gliding onto the ice and doing slow laps around the rink as they try the skates on.]

[ it's been years since shiro'd last gone ice skating. almost a decade, if he remembers correctly, but it's probably like riding a bike, right? not really something you forget how to do. and he's always had decent balance, even on ice. not the same kind that yuuri displays when he starts doing laps, elegant and clearly at home on the ice even without any fancy figures, but hopefully enough that he won't fall or break anything.

that wouldn't just be embarrassing, it would be a liability.

he picks a pair of skates that he thinks will fit. ] Have you ever been ice skating before? [ he asks allura while trying them on. ]

[Mentally, Allura's thoughts are still back on Oros. Physically, however, she's putting on the skates she had picked out, and as she puts them on, she does find her attention back to the here and now of...what this is.

Once on, she remains seated on a bench overlooking the rink, distracted as she watched Yuuri glide over the ice with ease, wondering if it is as easy as he makes it appear. The mice are sitting beside her, also watching.

She blinks, distracted, looking up at Shiro.]

No. We never had such a thing on my planet. [she looks down at the blades of the skates.] Are these...weapons?

[BECAUSE. I MEAN....]

[ it feels almost monstrous to do something as ordinary and pleasant as going ice skating in the aftermath of what happened on oros, with oros, but selfishly, shiro is still glad for it. they can't linger on it too much, they can't lose themselves in the darkness of it, or they'll become paralysed.

and so when he smiles at her question, it isn't forced. ]

They could probably be used as weapons, but no.

( Victor glances over from where he stands at the side of the ring, wearing the skates Yuuri had commissioned for him and smiling somewhat absently at first, having been watching Yuuri. He straightens up, bringing his arms off the side rail and chuckling, shaking his head. )

Not generally, though you're right. They can be dangerous. You can really injure or be injured if you're not careful. So no jumps today, hm?

( He winks, stepping closer and gesturing toward their feet. )

The boots are new, so they're not going to have any give. We'll stop before you're aching too much.

( It's simply what it is. New skates, unbroken in, will lean to pressure spots and the rest. For his part, Victor steps out onto the ice, moving to the side past the entrance and waiting. )

[Though Yuuri had been finishing his lap, he comes to a stop beside Viktor just in time to hear what they're talking about.]

Oh, yeah, be careful with the blades. I saw someone cut their hand on one back home once.

[Since it looks like they won't be much longer, rather than going off on his own again, Yuuri opts to hang around, leaning on the boards as he watches them.]

[She crosses her leg over the other, to give herself a better assessment of the blade at Shiro's answer. There's a bit of a curious frown.]

They seem like weapons. [Then she looks up at Victor, again noting his confidence wearing these types of shoes as though he has little to no issue balancing on these blades.] I...will be sure to break them in. I will admit they are not the most comfortable footwear--

[AND at the mention of someone having cut their hand on their shoes, Allura draws her hand immediately away from her shoes, setting both feet firmly down on the ground.]

...noted.

[She gets ready to stand up, uncertain and careful. It does feel off to stand in these already, and she wobbles a bit.]

[ shiro moves to stand, too, a little steadier than allura is. he's done this before and knowing what to expect makes it a little easier to adapt, even if he has to spread his hands a little for balance before he manages to find his center. ]

It's been years since I've done this.

[ now that victor mentioned it, he remembers that his feet had hurt by the end of it. but it had been worth it, too. ]

Shall we?

[ he takes a few careful steps toward the ice and, holding on to the wall of the rink, steps onto the ice. ]

( cut hands versus the damage that blades could potentially do when pair skating... Victor smiles to himself, gliding a short distance away on the ice. )

Sticking to the sides until you feel confident in your balance is perfectly fine!

( Victor................ is not the best for basics. He is, in fact, the worst for them. They all come too naturally that slowing down to think about them is an actual effort other people need to remind him about, even as he's simply gliding forward, turning around, and skating backward swivels without much apparent effort. Even if this is him trying to show a fairly simple technique... it's still leapfrogging ahead of where Allura is. )

[Though Yuuri doesn't skate off on hi own, he isn't much better than Viktor when it comes to teaching the basics. He honestly can't remember how the instructor at Ice Castle had explains it to him all those years ago.]

That's it. [He tries to be encouraging, hovering near Allura and Shiro when they get on the ice.] Use the wall if you think you need it.
