<sub>[ It didn’t take Karamatsu a long time to make up his mind about volunteering (again) for a mission like this after the announcement was made. So far, this place had continued to push his limits and challenge him, and with a stupidly arrogant mind like the one he had, he felt like he could do almost anything now with the assistance and guidance from others aboard Eluvio. He spent time in the mirror of the bathroom, fussing with himself and his appearance as if he were going for a job interview, like his appearance would carry any weight for the decision. He wanted to be presentable in front of whoever was going to be picking those to show diplomacy to those they would be bartering with. It was a selfish reason, but he wanted desperately to be recognized and adored as somebody who helped with their predicament. How cool would it be to have people acknowledge his effort to helping the entire ship? Pretty darn cool. Maybe he'd get a girlfriend then.

Once he is satisfied with himself, Karamatsu steps briskly out of the bathroom and calls out to Ichimatsu: ]</sub>

_{[ He didn’t want to go into details about it. He thought Ichimatsu wouldn’t care if he volunteered and kind-of died anyway, so he didn’t wan to be descriptive about where he was going. ]}

[Ichimatsu hadn't left their room much since the night in the Atrium. Given he seemed to be the only person that worked at Purrfect Palmistry, he was free to have the shop open or closed whenever he felt like it, though when things had gotten bad he'd left a note on the door in tiny scrawl that gave people the ability to contact him if in case they wanted the shop open. He didn't figure anyone really would, there wasn't a whole lot of business. Today, however, he hadn't left the room at all, curled at the head of the bed with his feet just under the blankets and his knees drawn to his chest, waving a sparkling catnip toy for Nyanko to bat at.]

[When Karamatsu spent so much time checking himself out, he thought nothing of it, but when he aimed to leave without so much as a pause to explain what grandiose event he was off to take part in, Ichimatsu's tiny eyebrows creased.]

Where are you going?

_{[ Karamatsu actually cringes once Ichimatsu asks him the question and he halts. He's too.. good of a guy to outright lie to Ichimatsu, no matter how much he wants to (jokes on him, he lies everyday by faking his personality) so he just swallows slowly and turns around, putting on the biggest, cheesiest grin he can.
Holding his arms out to reach side and shrugging his shoulders up like this is no big deal whatsoever, he goes on: ]}

Ah, they need help with getting the parts we need to fix the ship. Out of the goodness of my pure heart, I am going to offer my services.

[ichimyatsu]

[His eyes narrow, and his mouth quirks at one corner, going more crooked than usual. He sets the toy down to let Nyanko claim it and roll around on the bed with it.]

Isn't that kind of an awful idea? I mean, ignoring that it's yours.

Of course not, it's a wonderful idea..! I helped with the last mission— it was a piece of cake for me.
_{[ He's doing his best to cover up his nervousness, but alas, a voice pipes up through playing with the toy. ]}

I'm really terrified, but I'm just that desperate to be the hero so I can get positive attention.

_{[ Karamatsu's face drops completely as he looks at Nyanko who is now looking at him with big, curious eyes, the toy hugged between both of his paws. ]}

[He inhales to speak and Nyanko pipes up, and he chooses to look at the cat instead of Karamatsu with that admission.]

...you were also really sick after the whole thing with finding Rey's body, shouldn't you be thinking more about taking it easy than somebody thinking you're cool? [Is that... is that concern?]

<sub>[ Karamatsu feels his face flush with anger when Nyanko pipes up and decides to talk. Ugh, right. This cat is a pain in the ass and as a side note, Karamatsu doesn't like him. If it weren't for Nyanko, he wouldn't have caused such drama to stir up between the family; it wouldn't have given his brothers a reason to smother Ichimatsu that one time while he felt his body and heart ache.

So he ignores the dumb animal for now and puts his attention back on Ichimatsu. ]</sub>

_{[ His answer his firm and childish— there was a huge moodswing that happened just now, wow. ]}

I have the heart to help others— I should not ignore that desire, as it is wholesome and good.

[ichimyatsu]

[You hold your fucking tongue Shittymatsu that is his son--]

[He flinches at the shift, regardless, and averts his gaze. Ah, right, this was why he didn't try to express concern. He was awful at it.]

...right. Wholesome and good. Try not to find any bodies or wind up one yourself while you're gone, then. [Wholesome and good, and literally everything that isn't your awful little brother in this room.]

I will. And don't you dare leave this room until I get back.
_{[ older brother senses intensify and he's being shitty about it, lord mercy. Yeah, stay here with your stupid cat— he can't forgive himself if something happens to you. Karamatsu pivots on his heel and starts to head back out, and then: ]}

What would it matter if something like that happened to me, anyway? That's why I'm so reckless!

_{[ His shoulders scrunch up as he freezes, completely unsure of what to do for a second before he opens the door. ]}

Oh fuck off!

[He doesn't hesitate to fire that back, and Nyanko skitters a bit to the end of the bed. When he speaks again for Karamatsu, Ichimatsu feels distinctly sick, but he's frozen in place. What would it matter--]

[Who did that sound like? He opens his mouth to say something but closes it again, and Nyanko circles back over to him.]

Don't leave me alone.

[The words leave the cat's mouth and Ichimatsu is immediately moving, throwing himself off the bed and shoving past Karamatsu without even putting on his shoes. He can't handle this, he can't.]

[Well, that went well.]
