Cracks knuckles time to break this game in
Who: Mio & U
When: The day of arrival
Where: main promenade & atrium
Summary: Post-orientation, Mio feels distinctly disoriented.
[Main Promenade]
[Alright, well.
Alright then.
Following the orientation video she spent a few dazed minutes just staring around the area and the people, feeling like they all must have similar 'is this for real?' question going through their heads as she does. She wants to cry and she wants to scream, but mostly she just feels so baffled by the suddenness of anything that she can't do any of that.
She glances at the duffel bag and frowns at the suit inside--granted, it's still better than her own clothing (torn, dirty, splattered with what suspiciously looks like...blood?? A lot of blood. Concerning) but still. Space suit.
Mio turns away, fully prepared to just leave the little group and go off on her own, but only gets a few feet away as she starts looking at her other bag that's come with her.
--And promptly tosses both bags away from her with a yelp of panic. As they hit the floor, out from the smaller bag she'd brought with her tumbles an antique camera and a certain charm, but it's the camera that seems to have her attention most. For a moment Mio looks like she's either going to start hyperventilating or maybe kick the camera, but after a tense moment she slowly crouches down to start picking things up again with trembling fingers. She hesitates reaching for the camera though, with a look like she's half-afraid it might suddenly bite her.
Also aware that her outburst might've drawn some attention, she says a quick:] Sorry. [There, now no one will bother her and everything is Normal And Fine.]
[Atrium]
[Sometime later, Mio sits in the atrium, staring blankly at...nothing, really. She doesn't appear to be focusing on anything in particular, but there's a death grip on the antique camera from earlier as it rests on her knees. She's managed to find her way to her room to shower and change and have a bit of an emotional breakdown in peace; it had taken a lot of internal debating to finally drag herself out of the room to explore the ship a little more.
(What did it matter if she did or didn't? She should've just stayed in and maybe the'd forget about her and she could just...disappear. Somehow. Fade away?)
Mio got as far as the atrium before just collapsing on a bench and that's where she was currently and had been for the past half an hour, just. Staring. Once in a while her eyes scan the area without really seeing anything, but otherwise she hasn't really moved. There's a haunted sort of look about her and a peculiar set of bruising around her throat. It's butterfly-like, like... Well, sort of like someone's tried to strangle her. They look painful and fresh. That's normal.
After a few moments Mio looks down at the camera and slowly raises it to look through the viewfinder. Everyone around here was alive, right? Maybe? Hopefully?? After a few seconds of debating she goes ahead and takes a few test shots. Sorry if she accidentally gets you in the shot?? You'll probably be fine, provided you're not an spirit or something occult/paranormal/etc. Probably. Those sensitive to such things might be able to pick up that there's definitely some exorcism powers going on there though...
Otherwise enjoy your photo randomly being taken!]

atrium;
He needs time to think things through. Back in Utakata a troubled mind always lead one to the Guardian Tree. The atrium is no match, but the presence of nature is enough to provide some small comfort. He quietly tucks himself away in a corner, keeping the entrance in his line of sight, and meditates.
It is much later when the click of Mio's camera draws his attention and he opens his eyes. He watched her earlier, when they arrived, and recalls her odd reaction to the camera she wields. He almost leaves her be, until his Mitama mentions that there is a spiritual power in her photo-taking. Wisely, he has never ignored Jiraiya.
Activating his Eye of Truth, Hayatori sees for himself: there is a glow about the camera in her hands and a patch of crimson illumination on her throat unlike anything he has seen before. It is confirmation.
Hayatori neatly gets to his feet and approaches Mio. He wears his hood and mask, and his plover blades are sheathed and mounted at his lower back. Her body language suggests the she is skittish, and so he ensures that his steps are slow and actually audible, so that she has time to notice him coming. Stopping near her yet not too close, he speaks in an even, stoic tone. Yet there is curiosity in his visible eye and the minuscule tilt of his head.]
What are you doing?
no subject
He just seems curious though, but she doesn't let her guard down.] Just... [The sentence 'what does it look like I'm doing?' hangs on her tongue, but she looks at the camera and reminds herself that with all this weird different times and dimensions thing maybe he... doesn't know what a camera is?? She doesn't know.]
...Just taking pictures. If there was anything interesting... [Or if anything reacted to her pictures. She's still not entirely sure this isn't some weird afterlife thing.] Do you, um, know hat a camera is?
no subject
[Though he has no personal experience with them, and those he knows are earlier kinds, he does know of them.]
...
[Hayatori is silent for a moment as he weighs how best to ask his next question. He does not want to come off as though he is interrogating her, or force her to answer. In the end he takes a subtle approach with an easy way out.]
Ordinary pictures?
no subject
[But her voice is a little high and that combined with her shifty look and all does little to be convincing. She seems to realize that herself, though, and her gaze goes back to him, accusing and sullen as if somehow her inability to keep the emotion off her face was his fault.
Her fingers tighten on the camera again and she looks around, wishing there could be some kind of distraction. How does she even begin to explain something like this?]
...They're ordinary right now. [Which explains absolutely nothing. Mio sighs, irritated, and shrugs.] If something-- different was in the shot's way, something would've happened.
no subject
[Hayatori says, explaining the reason behind his curiosity as he slowly raises his hands in surrender. While he would like to know exactly would have happened, he doesn't press his luck.
She's not a Slayer or he and Jiraiya would know, so thinking of Kikka, he asks:]
Are you a priestess?
no subject
She relaxes some, but tenses again briefly at the question, hesitating.] I... Yeah. [She supposes it's something like that. Twin shrine maidens and all, and she's a Remaining and... Maybe it's not something bestowed upon her officially, but by virtue of being a twin (having been a twin) it was sort of automatic.
Mio shrugs] I mean, I guess. I don't have fancy robes or a shrine or anything, but... [She trails off and glances to him, a tad embarrassed and guilty] Sorry. For snapping at you and all. [Another pause and she gestures to the camera, figuring he should get a little better of an explanation now] It's an exorcising tool, but it works like a regular camera unless there's something actually able to be exorcised in the shot.
