WHO: Son Goku and others. Goku and Ukoku.
WHERE: Anywhere you want around the starship and then at the food court.
WHEN: January 6th
WHAT: Goku is a curious monkey trying to figure things out and make friends. Come make friends with him. Then he tries to have a nice meal and gets mercilessly bullied.
WARNINGS: Possibly violence at some point.
A.
[Goku tried to follow along with orientation, really he did. But he'd been worried and confused and they'd used a lot of long words that he'd never heard before. And some words he had heard before that apparently meant things he didn't know they'd meant. Also they spoke really fast and didn't answer his questions properly, even when he raised his hand. But, after a day or two to get his head around it and to talk to other people, Goku thinks he's gotten the important bits down.
a) He's in space, far away from Earth, floating in the middle of nowhere.
b) Sanzo, Gojyo, Hakkai and Jeep aren't nearby.
He's more concerned about the latter than the former, funnily enough. Who knows what kind of trouble the guys could get into without him there? He can't leave everything to Jeep, as sensible as the dragon is. He's gotta get back!
For now, the only thing he can think to do is explore the starship and look for answers. Maybe make some friends who can help him out- he's sure he's not the only one who wants to get back fast. People are likely to spot a curious monkey running around just about anywhere. From the medbay, to the shopping center, to the hangar, to getting lost in the black market... Goku is running down halls, peeking around corners and maybe accidentally breaking something he shouldn't have been touching and trying to hide it quickly before anyone notices.]
Hey! What are you doing? [Working on something? Trying to mind your own business? Don't mind Goku hovering by your shoulder.] Can I help?
B.
[After a day of running around and getting underfoot, Goku is understandably starving. The food court in the shopping center looks like paradise to him- so many restaurants! All so reasonably priced! Selling bananas is a dumb job but Goku's gathered enough change to buy himself a decent meal. He gets as much food as he can and spreads it out on a table, just for him!
One table.
Just for him.
On his own.
With all this food that he doesn't have to fight anyone for. With no one to scold him for spending too much or for his terrible manners. A nice, quiet meal... On his own.
Despite the crowds filling up the shopping center, Goku feels like it really is very quiet at the table. Slowly, he starts to eat some spring rolls, all the energy he'd been brimming with before suddenly fading.]

[Shopping, ugh. He'll do it, but he's got to whine like a kid.]
I've already got clothes, I don't need any!
[Like the ones he's... wearing...]
no subject
[She shakes the shirt at him] What are you going to do when one gets dirty? You can't run around in your underwear! [Well he could but don't.]
Besides, it'll be fun! Think of it like a game. A game where you get to keep the prizes at the end. [Prizes she's paying for.]
no subject
[He hasn't been here long enough yet, but left to his own devices Goku will absolutely wash his clothes in the bathroom sink and then let them dry overnight while he just hangs out in his bedroom naked. It could be worse.]
I'm not a little kid, you know... [Shopping isn't a game... It actually is pretty fun, though, he actually likes it.] ... Okay, fine.
no subject
You're not? [Her tone is teasing and she tosses the shirt over his head.
She turns away to find a rack of rather ridiculous looking futuristic sunglasses. Do they need sunglasses on a spaceship?? She pops on a silver-y pair, large and shimmery and gaudy, and turns to him in mock-seriousness] How do they look? [The lenses are huge on her face, she kinda looks like a bug.]
no subject
Goku pulls the shirt off his head and looks it over, before he looks back up at Mio.] ... [Leans in close to get a good look.]
... Like a praying mantis or somethin'. [Goku, you flirt.]
no subject
She tenses a bit in surprise as he leans in, but she holds still, watching him behind the lenses. His comment makes her laugh and she puts her hands up, fingers curled to resemble claws. She bares her teeth and makes a 'grr' noise, as if imitating a monster.
A pause and her face goes a little surprised.] I guess that's not what a praying mantis says. [Work with her here, she's trying]
no subject
Goku laughs at the growl as well and leans back again.] A really big one might growl! You don't know!
no subject
[She's curious! She pulls off another pair--they're black with flames, the m'lady is strong with this one. While she doesn't put them on herself, she does turn to try and slide them on his face] Here try these ones.
no subject
[The glasses look dumb as shit, which Mio probably anticipated, especially combined with the gold diadem that's peeking over the top of them.]
Do I look cool?
no subject
She presses her hands briefly against his cheeks after she places the glasses, tilting his head this way and that and making exaggerated thinking noises]
You look something alright. [She laughs and then her eyes flicker up to the diadem.] It might look better without the headband though. [mio reaches for it, fully intent on trying to take it off oOPS]
no subject
[He can't see very well out of these glasses. It's dark, he's not used to them and the dumb flames block his peripheral vision. But it's fun! This is a nice distraction from the struggle of being separated from Sanzo and the others. So his guard is down. Those are the only reasons Mio's fingers manage to brush against the golden diadem before Goku reacts with obvious alarm.]
No, don't- [Goku immediately flails, knocking Mio's hands away, and jumps backwards, bumping into a display stand full of dresses behind him.] Don't touch that- [Woah, there goes all the hangers and also Goku, who was holding onto the stand to stay upright. All crashing down onto the floor.]
... Ah, crap.

A change in scene. It's Goku but something different, his energy and everything seems more-- or maybe just too much. The power is nearly suffocating. It's terrifying and the sheer energy almost has her falling to her knees. There's blood and that monk again, a strange chanting and his hand enclosing over Goku's head. She can see the tears before she's ripped back to the present, her knees weak.
In all it took seconds-- she watches Goku fall, the blank expression leaving her face now that she's back in her own head and she blinks once, twice.
That was a lot of noise there, and people in the store turn to look. A shopkeeper, looking fairly angry at the disturbance, begins to round the corner and Mio panics. They had to get out of there, and then she could sort through what she'd just seen.
She reaches and grabs Goku's hand, tugging at him] We gotta get out of here! Run! [Maybe an overreaction, but running right now beats facing the embarrassment or trying to explain what just happened]
no subject
Huh? What? Why? [They're okay? No Seiten Taisei in sight? Oh, but that shopkeeper does look mad.] We can just say we're sorry- woah-
[Tugged to his feet!]
no subject
[Honestly just apologizing and helping to clean up would've been the much smarter choice, but the fight or flight response kicked in and Mio's dead-set on "flight."
Shove those breadsticks in your bag Goku we must leave now immediately. Mio's prett sure they can never return to this store ever again-- they might know their faces now. They'll forever be known as "that weird couple that knocked over a dress rack and inadvertently stole an ugly pair of sunglasses" provided Goku doesn't ditch said sunglasses in their retreat.]
no subject
But, Mio-
[Okay, fine, running now. He just follows after Mio, letting her drag him off and accidentally shoplift the hideous sunglasses still perched on his face. There's a belated "HEY, YOU KIDS!" from the store manager as they make their escape. Whoops.]
no subject
Her panic reaches to the point of being wild, an instinctive, animalistic need to escape escape escape. She weaves around people, eyes darting around for a place to hide. But they can't escape the village, there's a barrier, but the old god tree, maybe-- Wait, no, she's in the space station, and this isn't literal life-or-death.
There's a dim little hallway between two shops that looks like it probably leads back to some maintenance. She pulls him into there and against the wall as she struggles to catch her breath and keep her mind in the present. She's positioned them so she's practically trying to shield him, facing him an automatic protective gesture, her free hand going up briefly as if to cover his mouth before she hesitates.
Mio looks at him, blinks once, and then her expression seems to clear. He's not Mayu. Definitely not Mayu. She blinks again and looks around.
Right. Space station. Not the village.
Her free hand instead covers her mouth and she bows her head, beginning to laugh breathlessly as the adrenaline fades and her own realization of how weird and pathetic this all getting the best of her. The bruises on her throat feel like they burn.]
...I may have overreacted a little.
no subject
... Well, okay then. He squeezes her hand in return and keeps pace with her until she pulls them into the hallway.]
Mio- [He blinks in surprise when she tries to shield him. Then he puts his free hand on her shoulder and smiles comfortingly.] Yeah, maybe a little.
no subject
[She sighs deeply. How embarrassing. After she's collected herself, she slowly uncurls her fingers and slides her hand away, stepping back. Mio's eyes search over him, trying to figure out what to say now, and after a moment she runs had through her hair, looking at his diadem again, then his face, then quickly away.]
...Um, about before, trying to touch your-- [Mio points at her forehead to indicate the diadem, not sure what to call it.] Sorry. If I hadn't done that this wouldn't have happened.
no subject
Uh- [he clears his throat briefly before he responds.] It's okay. I kinda... overreacted too.
[Should he explain? It's always been the Sanzo Party's general policy to avoid mentioning that they're youkai unless they're actually asked, or if it gets too obvious to deny. But Mio's nice, and she doesn't even really know what a youkai is anyway. Now his hand is free, he slowly goes to point at the headband.]
My diadem- it's a power limiter. I can't take it off.
[Well, he can but...]
no subject
I know. I mean-- I figured. [Power limiter makes sense though when she remembers the terrifying amount of energy from her--his?--memory. She shakes her head.] Sometimes when I touch things I can... see things. Memories or things like that.
[She speaks slowly, watching him warily for an averse reaction.] It wasn't anything bad. [WELL.] I mean, not really. [This isn't going well, but then she's never really had to explain this sort of thing before either. Her tone is reluctant] But I did see... you. Without it. And a couple other things.
no subject
When?! I mean- what did you see?
[Though, what does it matter. If she saw him without his limiter, it's all bad. Goku only remembers brief flashes of his various times without his limiter (he barely remembers the incident she saw at all- it was so long ago and he was just a kid) but he's seen the aftermath. Mio's just trying to be nice. Goku vividly remembers Gojyo and Hakkai smiling and acting like everything was fine, even though Sanzo was missing and Hakkai was still hurt. Everyone was always so nice and worried about him, even though he's the one hurting people.]
no subject
[Her tone grows a bit wistful; in all she'd consider that a pretty good memory if only for the ending.] The other you were still pretty young-- I guess it wasn't that far after the first one. You were-- [She doesn't want to be mean, but she won't lie either] It was pretty scary. I've never felt power like that before. The closest, I guess, was-- [The hellish abyss, maybe, and even that didn't compare. She shakes her head, cutting herself off, and continues elsewhere] But that guy was there again. He chanted something and the thing around his shoulders like exploded? [Okay not really but--] He put the diadem thing back on you and you passed out.
...There was a lot of destruction. [Mio is quiet for a moment, trying to figure out what to say.] But, it's not like you're like that all the time. So... [SO DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT?? She doesn't know what to say here to be reassuring]
no subject
[He wants to stay with that memory for a little longer. It's important to remember, especially now. But Mio is still talking.] ... I don't really remember that other time, but it sounds- ["pretty scary"] about right. Sanzo's really strong. That's what usually happens when it comes off.
[His limiter breaks or comes off, he wrecks shop for a little while, Sanzo or someone else gets him back under control. It's best when it's Sanzo.]
But yeah, I'm not... normally like that, I think... [But it's still him. He's not worrying about it, so much, but it's still the truth.]
no subject
She doesn't know Goku that well. This is only their second conversation, after all, but in the end the amount of time they have or have not spent together feels insignificant. Goku's proven already to be kind and open. Maybe she'd hesitate to really describe him as 'pure'= pure-hearted? Maybe, something like that. Saying he's innocent would almost sound more like an insult. But he's honest, and warm.
Her eyes study his face, mapping the differences between the younger boy in her vision and the old one that stands before her. That 'other him' would probably look different too, more angular and far scarier. Mio would, at least, never want to meet him. But he was still Goku.
There's a soft scoff.] 'I think,' he says. Please. [A dismissive wave of her hand. He's not like that at all, under normal circumstances! That she can claim with confidence. After a moment she rests her hands on her hips and considers her words again, before reaching out to place her palms on either side of his face, making sure he won't look away.]
We're friends. [This is also said with a firm confidence.] And that means accepting that part of you too. So don't be so worried or whatever, okay? 'No take-backs' on friendship, remember?
...Besides. You weren't that scary. You were pretty cute when you were a kid, even like that-- all that babyfat. [She squishes his cheeks now and gives a mock-pout, pretending to be disappointed] What happened?
no subject
We're friends. [He responds quietly, reaffirming that. He wouldn't blame her for panicking and calling him a monster, if she really saw a vision of the Seiten Taisei. She could at least be mad at him for not saying he was youkai when they were talking about it. Mio really is nice. This whole anomaly, space-kidnapping thing is a huge mess, but at least he got to meet-
The glasses fall off his face completely when she starts squishing him and he flails his arms about wildly.] Hey! Mi-ooh! Stop it! Nothin' happened! What're ya doin'? Cut it out!
[Girls are so weird.]
