WHAT: Alpha and Beta teams begin their mission.

Catch-all mingle log while Alpha and Beta travel together. Toss up a header for a specific day or event to keep things better organized and then everyone can tag around in that.

(Once we figure out when the sandstorm and fall into the gorge happens to split everyone up, we can add that too to close out the big group log.)

I think I will. I've been meaning to touch base with them again. Alpha Team. The big guns. (arms out as if to embrace the terrain, dressed in that regular flashy attire in a fierce refusal of that new... thing they were given.) It's funny if you think about it, Carolina. Here we are on a mission to steal something when you were so hard up on me...

(a hand out, finger forming a gun.) You won't tell me "no" when I take it, will you? I mean, you're the one taking care of the haggling this time. (winking when she motions out a bang.)

It's different when it's a mission objective. [ is it really, carolina? maybe not, but she chooses to see it as different, despite how well blindly following orders to steal a mystery package worked out for her in the past. but this is better than being stuck on a ship and she's not here for morals, anyway. she's just here to keep people safe. ]

You were just doing it as a challenge.

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion. In the end, it's whatever you tell yourself that helps you sleep at night.

(rapid steps bring her ahead and she crests a flat boulder childishly, perching at the top to scope out the miles of walking they're to be doing. she wonders when they'll make camp, surely when it gets dark — but a glance up at the sky tells her that might be tough when they have no idea how long this planet's days are.)

You're not doing this as a challenge? C'mon, get real. We're both just a couple of junkies.

[ that's painfully accurate and carolina needs a moment to figure out how to deflect, veering a little to go around sombra's perch. why else could she be doing this? she wants to prove to this command she's never been given time to care about or respect that she's the best, that she can do anything they want her to. she wants to be here, on the ground, showing off at what she does best and keeping decent people alive in the process. ]

I'm here because I'm qualified for the mission. And if you're qualified to keep people safe, you have an obligation to do it.

[ that sounds like high-ranking lip service, but it's an attempt. ]

(that causes conflict for sombra; convincing yourself you're doing it all for yourself isn't as easy as it seems. not when you're in the thick of things, aiding and abetting crime for the betterment — or to the detriment — of mankind. she can't speak on the matter. all she can do is carry on with what she knows how to do... and how to do well.)

You believe that yourself, or are you just quoting your handbook? (lifting her face, raising an eyebrow at unfamiliar skies.) We do what we do because we wanna do it — and maybe we're damn good at it, too. I am, por lo menos.

(a pause, letting the oppressive silence of this wasteland fall like a blanket before a peculiarly innocent question crops up.)

So what do you do?

I'm a soldier. [ wow carolina, that wasn't obvious at all. even out of armour, it's not a stretch to imagine she'd be in a field of work like this. ]

And I'm good at it. I was trained to be the best and I am. Why wouldn't you want to do what you're good at?

[ no mention of the handbook comment, because that's the sort of moral philosophy she's not interested in discussing right now. she knows she's still got a ways to go in terms of figuring out what she does to protect people versus just wanting to win, wanting to prove how good she is, but this is the sort of conversation that she usually has with epsilon. and he's not here, so it's better to keep it all bottled up for now. ]

[doxing]

(a smile at the obvious statement, dropping from the slate perch with no lack of grace, sweeping over loose ground to walk far too close. shoulder to shoulder, it's easier to hear fluctuations in the voice, despite the radio-borne quality it has with that helmet on.)

Well, I mean... I can't say anything, I just don't like to lie to myself. I couldn't stop if I tried. (oh yes, the word "addict" is a very accurate term for what she is.) I wanna see you in action, if what you say's true...

(watching the best do what they're best at is always a sight to behold and sombra's always let her curiosity run rampant. enough to land her in quite a bit of trouble, but that was then and this is now.)

I'm sure you'll get a chance. There's going to be a lot more than scenery to take in once the natives realize why we're here.

[ for all the projected (and honestly genuine) irritation that carolina has toward sombra, there's a hint of obvious pride to her words. when trouble comes, she's going to show off, because that's part of the thrill of it for her, in knowing she's the best and knowing that everyone around her knows it, too.

and it'll be something to do that isn't just walking. she's looking forward to fighting. ]
