Oros mission start

WHO: ALPHA TEAM (Carolina, Maine, Wash, K-2SO, April, and Sam) and BETA TEAM (Lee, Somba, Hayatori, Cassian, and Re-L)
WHERE: Oros
WHEN: January 11-???
WHAT: Alpha and Beta teams begin their mission.
WARNINGS: TBD

Catch-all mingle log while Alpha and Beta travel together. Toss up a header for a specific day or event to keep things better organized and then everyone can tag around in that.

(Once we figure out when the sandstorm and fall into the gorge happens to split everyone up, we can add that too to close out the big group log.)

And here I thought I'd be the pessimist.

[She doesn't sound too worried or very serious about her light mocking.]

Beta team's going to have the cover it needs, I've certainly got experience doing that. Almost signed up along with you and the others though.

[One eyebrow raises.] You are on the Beta team, right? [Maybe checking the team rosters one more time wouldn't hurt either.]

There's no brightening up a mission where we're sent in with bare minimum in the way of ammunition and supplies. [ Right? Right. She'd be a little more upbeat if they'd been sent with a separate pack bursting with ammunition for each of them, but instead she's stuck with a measly few clips each, knowing that these aliens were well armored and would be ready to fight them tooth and nail for this relic and whatever it stood for.

She is maybe a little too much of a realist for situations such as these. ]

It had better, considering. Either way I'll be seeing to myself as best I can too. [ There, her expectations are laid out like a persian rug now! She gives a little nod at the next question, and may introduce herself, but doesn't offer a hand. She has things about being touched, promise it isn't personal April. ]

I am. Re-L Mayer.
ninponeil: (Teach me.)

[And here April was sure she already used to the rough truth being tossed around back home. re: raphael]

Yeah. Letting someone now you has their back when things go south doesn't put a good spin on things, you're right.

[She might be small, but April's got enough sass to fill the hangar itself. Her tone mirrors the forward inclination of her head reserved specifically for the "really?" raised eyebrows.]

Nice to meet you, Re-L. I'm April O'Neil and I'll be covering you. With or without ammo.

[She will slay her with kindness if need be.]

If you want a job done right, you do it yourself, typically. [ Yes, Re-L was that kind of control freak, and no, she had no shame about it either. Trusting people she barely knew with watching her back just.. didn't seem like the most intelligent thing she could think to do. Other people, in her experience, tended to lord things over you when favors were done, and well - to say she didn't have time to return favors or whatever the hell it might be after this mission was saying the least of it. But what the hell was she supposed to do otherwise?

She looks a bit more than un-convinced that this girl is going to cover her back, if she's honest, and nothing about her face hides that fact, either. ]

We'll see about that. I've brought my own back up, too, lest all this under equipping and the rest means that they're just trying to offload some of us in one way or another.
ninponeil: (Are you going to live?)

[April's never had to guess at how hard it is to tell someone their face is being rude, at least not until now.

But she perseveres. If anyone's equipped to give someone a second chance it's April. She's dealt with one person who actually tried to kill her and that went in the opposite direction recently. So why not again?]

You can't get rid of someone if they're volunteering to risk their life.

[Standard fare for April at this point and from Re-L's take on things, it might just be the same for her as well.]

I've met our team leader, she looks like a military pro if you ask me. I don't know who you have for Beta, but I'm sure they want to make it out of this without any casualties.

[She has to ask to be sure:]

Have you ever had something like this go wrong?

Military is not always the answer. They operate very stringently and are taught to follow orders with minimal questions asked.. even worse if it's robotic. I've read of those who have broken ranks and the like, however.. [ She pauses, fishes for the way she wants to word what she wants to say next so that it doesn't sound horribly harsh. She'd despised immigrants for being forgettable faces and followers, and it was the same situation, here, and yet different - ]

Let's say the need for structure can, at times, get in the way of sense. I had to learn the same and it wasn't a pretty lesson.

I want to make it out without any casualties as well. [ A pause, as she asks if she's had something like this go wrong, and a short half-laugh precedes her answer. ]

In a way. I was sent out of the dome I was raised in to retrieve a certain immigrant.. to say it went wrong would be an understatement since after I was almost shot in the face I then caught a typically-deadly without a vaccine disease from the outside after having to leave behind my protective suit... [ A beat, then: ]

Things can go wrong before you even know what the hell is going on. And here, like I was outside of Romdeau, you and I are far from the help of family and friends.
