[ In reality, this should not be happening. This was decisively not the Neo World Program where she came from, nor was this Jabberwock… or even the Future Foundation headquarters. Not that she knew what those would be like, but she couldn’t just simply assume things based off what little information she knew. The uniformed people that had assisted her upon awakening reminded her of the outfits you’d see in the Tron games. However, before she can ask questions or even think, she’s ushered into what seems to be “Orientation” with some other people, most of who she doesn’t recognize until she sees a familiar face.

Her own face.

Allowing a yawn to escape her lips along with rubbing the corner of her eye to make sure that she isn’t dreaming before taking a seat and piping up, awkwardly, yet quietly: ]

… Is this supposed to be the part where I’m supposed to say “you’re not me” and you turn into a monster?

[ Starting with the references already, are we? ]

► save file two: CHOOSE YOUR DIFFICULTY SETTING...

[ Congratulations, Eluvio, for today, you get two for the price of one! That’s right, for the cost of absolutely free, you’ll have two new arrivals standing side by side; looking almost exactly the same with the exception of their outfits which are the main difference here. But other than that, they look and sound practically alike that it’s kind of scary. ]



➣ option a: hallways

[ Once the two of them have gone through the process of getting acquainted with the orientation video - and each other - the girls will find themselves wandering the halls of the ship. Video games aside, it’s a little different than what either of them are used to, but both of them seem to be handling it rather well under the circumstances.

...at least until they run into someone in the hallway, and realize that they have to introduce themselves with the same name. That’s a bit of a problem.

So, after that initial confusion, you - the lucky (?) passerby - will get to help them figure out what to call each other when they’re side by side. Please enter name. ]

… Excuse me. [ Almost eerily quiet, the Nanami Chiaki who isn’t wearing the Hope’s Peak Academy uniform seems to pipe up, tilting her head to the side. ] I have a question for you, probably. If you had two people named Nanami Chiaki and Nanami Chiaki and would have to give them alternate names, what would you call them? It would have to be something like Pit or Dark Pit… or maybe Kasumi and Kasumi Alpha, I think. Oh, and since you would be on the character naming screen, it has to be a name with ten or less characters… I think.

[ That’s when she decides to look at her counterpart for any help, because talking, even this much is a bit difficult. ]

Mm… Naming people in real life is probably a little different than naming them on a character naming screen. [ The Nanami in HPA uniform casts a fond look at her other self. ] But I think ten characters or less is a good place to start.

[ She pauses for a moment before tilting her head to the side and continuing. ] If it were a name that’s not too different from our original one, but is still enough to tell us apart, that would be ideal. You can think of us as… palette swaps, I guess, but we’re not quite the same person. So please keep that in mind when picking out names for us.

➣ option b: shopping center

[ While finding out where they’re going to be staying during their stay is definitely of major importance, the second best thing is to head to the shopping center for probably one of the most vital things in their lives: video games. Hence why you might run into this conversation: ]

Do you think there’s an arcade here? Like the ones you’d see in Yakuza or Shenmue.

[ Nanami’s usually sleepy eyes are a little wider than normal, taking in the sight of so many things at once - but she pulls her attention back to her companion promptly. ] Hmm… In a place this big, it seems like there should be something like that around. It’s definitely worth looking around to see if we can find one, though. [ Her eyes shut with a giggle. ] Between the two of us, we’d probably be able to gather a lot of prizes.

… I’d think so, too. [ There’s a beat, almost a rather thoughtful pause. ] We might empty out the crane machines, probably. Do you think if that happens we can have some sort of giveaway? Or maybe a game competition with some of the prizes as a prize… I wonder if that would be redundant, however.

In that case… [ Coming to a stop, she lays a hand on the other girl’s blue cardigan. ] Maybe it would be best to ask someone? If we’re going to have a giveaway, we might as well get people’s opinions first, right? We can do it like a poll of sorts and see what people like best. [ And with that, Nanami will try to get the attention of the nearest passerby. ] Excuse me, [ it’ll make her pause for just a moment, realizing that she almost identically echoed her other self’s quiet tone from earlier, but then Nanami pushes through the strange feeling. ] If you had a lot of prizes that you had won from a game machine, how would you distribute them to people?

[ Nanami is pretty certain she knows exactly what's going on here, but she's not sure if she should voice it. Or even if she's allowed to. ]

... I did. [ She almost fell asleep in the middle of it, but she managed not to. Somehow. ] But do you actually believe in what they said, in that video?

[ There's a hint of curiosity when she says it, almost as if she's implying something. And she is, really, because how is it even possible for an anomaly to bring someone like her onboard? ]

Ah... [She feels a drop in her stomach, just a little. Something a little bit like regret.] I'm sorry for bringing it up. You don't have to think about it too much, I think. [Foolish, probably, to bring it up at all when this likely isn't even her Hinata, just like this Nanami isn't exactly her either. Nanami will tell him what she needs to when she gets home, or if she's lucky enough for him to come here as well. She doesn't know if she'd want him stuck in this, though...] ...Anyway. We should focus on this place like you said.

I read it over the transcript too, but... Something feels kind of weird about all of this. I'm not sure I believe it myself... The anomalies they talked about sound like something out of a game. Although... [She casts a glance at the other Nanami.] I never thought I'd meet another me, so maybe there's something to it.

It felt like they were telling facts but glossing over the details. It was more like an outline than any kind of briefing. [The whys has been missing. That had been point one. Point two is-]

If they really wanted us to know everything why not tell us why the dog tags are so important we have to report if we lose them and get replacements.

[Yet he has more to say. Something more personal. His body visibly relaxes and his voice is gentle.] Nanami, it's okay to have brought that up. It's just too much right now. That's all. We can talk more about it once we sort out a few things about this place.

[ Nanami herself shakes her head at her counterpart's apology, tossing her a rather gentle smile in return. ]

You really don't have to apologize for something like that, Nanami-san. Just like Hinata-kun said. Once we get ourselves settled... we can figure something out. Right?

[ She tries her best to be reassuring for the both of them, even if it comes off a little awkwardly on her part. ]

Do you think we can investigate and ask around?

[Nanami ducks her head, embarrassed, but something warm spreads through her chest. She's bad at this, but... Maybe she's blown it up more in her head than she needs to? And they're both really kind...] Mm, both of you are right. Thank you... And we'll talk about it more later.

I see what Hinata-kun means, though... The info about the dog tags was odd. And the instructions to wear the suits outside made sense, but having to wear them to work seems a little funny too... All of it was a little weird.

[Almost like... Something pricks at her nerves. Are things being hidden from them? But she doesn't know if that's a safe thought to say aloud, at least here, so she doesn't exactly voice it. Tries to hint at it, though, even if she doesn't know if she succeeds.]

We might want to be careful who we choose to talk to, but asking around seems like a good idea. Especially if it's people who wound up here the same way we did. We should probably try to gather as much information as we can, and then I guess we can go from there?

Oh, my... Student ID? [Her eyebrows lift, just mildly confused.] I do have mine, but...

[That's... odd, for Hinata to bring it up now. Did something in them change after being brought here, perhaps?]

I haven't checked it since we arrived, but it should just have the information of both my classmates and I. Did something odd happen to either of yours since we got on the ship...?

[He gives a short return glance to the Nanami he knows, and mods. She is going to know eventually if more of them arrive. Better to get it out of the way now during a quieter time.]

It won't contain any other kind of information? No maps or rules?

[His sharp gaze fixed on hers as he adds,]

Aside from the obvious, a Reserve Course Student...shouldn't have one.

[Yet, he does. He had stumbled slightly over saying those words. He still has problems with it. And what he became is even worse. Cold. Indifferent to everything.]

[ While Nanami would understand his reasoning, she doesn't think that the timing is right to talk about it now. Not so hurriedly after the whole confusion regarding the two Nanamis. But if he thinks that it's okay... she'll accept that decision he's made. ]

[At first, she flusters a little bit. Even though she's spent so much time with Hinata, there's still a lot she doesn't know about the Reserve Course. He didn't really like talking about it.]

A-ah, I'm sorry if that was insensitive, Hinata-kun, I didn't realize they didn't...

[...And catches herself.

If Reserve Course students don't get one... What's that there in Hinata's hand?]

But... I don't understand. That looks like it's yours, so how...?

[She glances between Hinata and the other Nanami, confusion clear on her features.] I'm not sure I get what's going on here... And there is something odd happening, I think...

There's nothing in my handbook besides things like birthdays, height and weight, likes and dislikes... [Her gaze shifts from confusion into something a little firmer.] But it's not like that for the two of you, is it? Something's happened to both of yours, hasn't it?

[This isn't the time to get into any of it. Part of him is dying to know the connections between them but, now.

It feels like ripping the bandages and stitches out before they're even finished covering a wound.]

They're going to be different. But, now's not the time to discuss that either. There's...there's been enough confusion today.

[His hand wraps around the id as if it were a lifeline. This is his Hope's Peak id. It's a record that everything they had been through had happened. that all they had sacrificed hadn't been for nothing.]

For now, my id is as real as any other Hope's Peak student. It's proof we all come from the same place. [Somehow.]

...is there, any other questions you wanted to ask? Sorry, I know I'm talking a lot. I know all of this is really confusing. I'm still... [He looks down at the id and clenches his hand on it.]

I'm still me. Hinata Hajime. Maybe I don't remember some things but I know that much. Whatever comes next we'll find a way to make it through.

[Something pangs through her at the apology, but then she smiles, warm and soft.]

It's okay, Hinata-kun. You don't need to apologize for that. We're all just trying to figure things out. Talking through it will help us.

But you're... You're a little different from the Hinata-kun I remember, but you're definitely still him. I wouldn't doubt it for even a second. There's things I want to find out about you... And you too, Nanami-san. [She nods at the other her, smile still softly in place. The questions are burning in her, but they're nearly all about Hinata and Nanami, so she'll hold them back.] But they're things that I can ask once we're settled.

But... I'm really happy you're both here with me. It seems like there's some unsettling things here, but having you two with me... I feel like it's going to be okay. I know things are still confusing, though... So if there's anything I can do to help make it better, I'll do it gladly.

[ Even though there are underlying implications to her words, they're all heartfelt and meaningful. It's clear that she cares a lot for the two of them and it shows in how she manages to speak a little more clearly, a little faster. ]

I'm glad, too, you know. It's definitely a lot easier to deal with things here with the two of you by my side... I think.

[He looks between the two girls and can't help but feel a little bit lighter. Yeah. A smile graces his face as he dips his head. He puts away the id. They could bother with that later.]

Yeah. Whatever happens I'm glad I have the two of you with me.
