WHO: Chiaki Nanami, Chiaki Nanami (AI) and you, the poor unfortunate soul.
WHERE: Various places aboard the ISC Eluvio.
WHEN: Feb 8th
WHAT: Two Nanamis walk into a bar-- actually, it’s just two girls with the same name arriving on the Eluvio. Shenanigans happen. Or something.
WARNINGS: Spoilers for both Super Dangan Ronpa 2 and Dangan Ronpa 3 might occur! Also, as a heads up, as both girls are avid gamers and tend to make game references quite frequently; if you’re playing a character that has a video game adaptation around 2012 and would like to opt out, please check in here for AI Nanami’s spoiler opt out and gaming fourth wall opt out and here for DR3 Nanami’s.

- [ In reality, this should not be happening. This was decisively not the Neo World Program where she came from, nor was this Jabberwock… or even the Future Foundation headquarters. Not that she knew what those would be like, but she couldn’t just simply assume things based off what little information she knew. The uniformed people that had assisted her upon awakening reminded her of the outfits you’d see in the Tron games. However, before she can ask questions or even think, she’s ushered into what seems to be “Orientation” with some other people, most of who she doesn’t recognize until she sees a familiar face.
Her own face.
Allowing a yawn to escape her lips along with rubbing the corner of her eye to make sure that she isn’t dreaming before taking a seat and piping up, awkwardly, yet quietly: ]
… Is this supposed to be the part where I’m supposed to say “you’re not me” and you turn into a monster?
[ Starting with the references already, are we? ]
► save file two: CHOOSE YOUR DIFFICULTY SETTING...
- [ Congratulations, Eluvio, for today, you get two for the price of one! That’s right, for the cost of absolutely free, you’ll have two new arrivals standing side by side; looking almost exactly the same with the exception of their outfits which are the main difference here. But other than that, they look and sound practically alike that it’s kind of scary. ]
➣ option a: hallways
[ Once the two of them have gone through the process of getting acquainted with the orientation video - and each other - the girls will find themselves wandering the halls of the ship. Video games aside, it’s a little different than what either of them are used to, but both of them seem to be handling it rather well under the circumstances.
...at least until they run into someone in the hallway, and realize that they have to introduce themselves with the same name. That’s a bit of a problem.
So, after that initial confusion, you - the lucky (?) passerby - will get to help them figure out what to call each other when they’re side by side. Please enter name.]
… Excuse me. [ Almost eerily quiet, the Nanami Chiaki who isn’t wearing the Hope’s Peak Academy uniform seems to pipe up, tilting her head to the side. ] I have a question for you, probably. If you had two people named Nanami Chiaki and Nanami Chiaki and would have to give them alternate names, what would you call them? It would have to be something like Pit or Dark Pit… or maybe Kasumi and Kasumi Alpha, I think. Oh, and since you would be on the character naming screen, it has to be a name with ten or less characters… I think.
[ That’s when she decides to look at her counterpart for any help, because talking, even this much is a bit difficult. ]
Mm… Naming people in real life is probably a little different than naming them on a character naming screen. [ The Nanami in HPA uniform casts a fond look at her other self. ] But I think ten characters or less is a good place to start.
[ She pauses for a moment before tilting her head to the side and continuing. ] If it were a name that’s not too different from our original one, but is still enough to tell us apart, that would be ideal. You can think of us as… palette swaps, I guess, but we’re not quite the same person. So please keep that in mind when picking out names for us.
➣ option b: shopping center
[ While finding out where they’re going to be staying during their stay is definitely of major importance, the second best thing is to head to the shopping center for probably one of the most vital things in their lives: video games. Hence why you might run into this conversation: ]
Do you think there’s an arcade here? Like the ones you’d see in Yakuza or Shenmue.
[ Nanami’s usually sleepy eyes are a little wider than normal, taking in the sight of so many things at once - but she pulls her attention back to her companion promptly. ] Hmm… In a place this big, it seems like there should be something like that around. It’s definitely worth looking around to see if we can find one, though. [ Her eyes shut with a giggle. ] Between the two of us, we’d probably be able to gather a lot of prizes.
… I’d think so, too. [ There’s a beat, almost a rather thoughtful pause. ] We might empty out the crane machines, probably. Do you think if that happens we can have some sort of giveaway? Or maybe a game competition with some of the prizes as a prize… I wonder if that would be redundant, however.
In that case… [ Coming to a stop, she lays a hand on the other girl’s blue cardigan. ] Maybe it would be best to ask someone? If we’re going to have a giveaway, we might as well get people’s opinions first, right? We can do it like a poll of sorts and see what people like best. [ And with that, Nanami will try to get the attention of the nearest passerby. ] Excuse me, [ it’ll make her pause for just a moment, realizing that she almost identically echoed her other self’s quiet tone from earlier, but then Nanami pushes through the strange feeling. ] If you had a lot of prizes that you had won from a game machine, how would you distribute them to people?

Even after she's taken a seat, Nanami continues to feel relatively strange, and perhaps that's why she's left blinking at her own mirror image sitting beside her without really registering that it's her but not. She blinks a few times, trying to do away with the image, before her mirror begins talking to her and it hits her that this is real.]
You're... me, aren't you? [Some small part of her brain tells her that she should be freaking out like a normal person would, but Nanami doesn't feel particularly inclined to, even if she is surprised.] I promise I won't turn into a monster, although I appreciate the reference.
How did you get here? Are we alternate versions of each other...? Or maybe you came through a mirror... but you don't seem like you're bad, and I don't remember ever breaking one.
[She answers the reference with another reference of her own, even managing a small smile. There's something that feels good about it, like when Hinata had recognized Gala Omega and her classmates knew about Double Dragon II. Even if she's confused and not panicking nearly as much as she should be, it still fills her with a warm feeling - the knowledge that the things she brings up about games will be recognized, and maybe even appreciated.]
sdr2 / potential dr3 spoilers
[ While she still isn't completely certain about how she can actually exist in a world like this, and it shows in her slightly nervous, slow speech. Even though she has managed to figure out how to articulate her words, she still finds it feeling strange in the back of her throat. Nevertheless, she manages to persevere, forcing her lips to tug into a soft smile. ]
But I don't know how I got here. [ It doesn't make any sense. This can't be the Neo World Program... can it? ] I'm pretty sure I didn't come through a mirror, or became a clone or managed to travel to another parallel universe... But maybe we should share the last thing we remember before we got here? That might give us some hints as to what's going on, I think.
sdr2 / potential dr3 spoilers
[Nanami shuts her eyes, trying to place it. The feeling is a strange one, for some reason, as she attempts to recollect. The space between one memory to the next is the part in particular that feels funny... But if she disregards all of that, she can still easily recall the orange tones that had painted his face in the evening light.]
The last thing I remember is... saying goodbye to Hinata-kun. His eyes were very sad the whole time we were talking, but I told him that I would see him tomorrow. And then... nothing. I woke up here, just like everyone else it seems.
...What about you? Is it different?
no subject
... Yeah. I never really got to properly say goodbye to Hinata-kun.
[ For obvious reasons. ]
no subject
You... never got to say goodbye to him? [They definitely have different memories prior to being here, then. That alone is worrisome enough, but...] Did something happen that kept the two of you from saying goodbye?
[She doesn't know if it's the right thing to do in this instance, but her mind goes to different game scenarios instantly, plots churning through her head at a rapid rate. Are there weird timeline things happening? Alternate or parallel universes? Clones?
This is real life and not a game, of course, but... Who ever goes through their day and winds up talking to a near-carbon copy of themselves? Perhaps Nanami's line of thought isn't so far off after all...]
no subject
[ She says that in a way that makes it almost suspicious. It's a little conflicting, the way things happened. ] It's more that it wasn't a proper goodbye, to either of us, probably.
[ It was a goodbye in a sense, and she said the words back then as she waved to them all before she died. Even though her lips read a sad story, there's just something about it that seems satisfied. ]
Even so, it's okay. We managed to get what we wanted in the end.
[ KINDA..... even if it all ended on a bittersweet note. ]
no subject
It's good you were able to get what you wanted... But I hope you'll be able to tell Hinata-kun goodbye someday as well.
[She gives the Orientation room a quick glance, but it's hard to tell with so many unfamiliar faces seated all around them.] I don't know if Hinata-kun ended up here as well... But if he didn't, hopefully you'll be able to tell him everything you need to whenever we can go home.
[...If they go home? They will be able to go home eventually, right? Although something has been odd about all of this since the moment she woke up, even if she can't place what it is...]
(no subject)
A
By the end of the explanation, he's actually smiling a little.]
Funny that you ask. Back home, there was another skater who had the same name as me--we're both "Yuri"--and my sister just decided to name him "Yurio" instead. It's a pretty simple change and easy to remember, but I don't know if either of you would like it.
nanami (ai) → nanami (dr3) → yuuri
[ Nanami herself hums to herself, deep in thought as she tries to think about it just a little bit. ]
So it would be Chiaki and Chiakio? Or maybe Nanami and Nanamio. [ Both of which sound rather strange on Nanami's tongue. ] It reminds me a little bit of Mario of Luigi. But which one of us is Mario and which one is Luigi...?
nanami (dr3) → yuuri → nanami (ai)
[It's... an interesting thought. Nanami doesn't know if she'd be a very good sister, honestly, but she would not be opposed. She tilts her head towards the young man again, though.]
It's not a bad idea, though... Chiakio sounds a little bit odd, but Nanamio isn't too bad. Both of them feel weird to say, though... [Nanami's eyes turn thoughtful as she considers.] Maybe a different sound than "o" altogether... I'm not really sure what would sound good, though.
no subject
Wait... you aren't related? I thought you were twins. [Then again, twins probably wouldn't have the same name either... how odd.]
You're from...Japan? [Their name sounds Japanese, at least, so he tentatively continues.] Why not shorten one of yours to Na-chan?
no subject
[ Nanami sounds almost unsure, as if she doesn't actually know whether or not it's true or not. ]
We are from Japan though, yes. So it would be Na-chan and Nanami... Or maybe if we just use the first syllable it would be Na-chan and Chi-chan? But which one of us would get which one? I think I'm the younger one, though.
no subject
[Something the other Nanami says gives her pause.] Oh, you... You're younger? [They had looked to be about the same age, so it was something Nanami hadn't considered until now. But it's probably best to not bring it up now, lest it cause even more confusion.] I didn't realize, but we can talk about it more later. For now... If we decided on Na-chan or Chi-chan, I'm not sure how we would decide, but I wouldn't have a preference either way. I like both.

Finally, he manages to utter a word, his eyes sharply glancing between the two of them.]
N- Nanami...
[And then here comes the volume.]
TWO OF YOOUUUUU?!
[He had thought that he was prepared for anything.]
nanami (ai) → nanami (dr3) → nidai
[ She puts a hand out, as if making an attempt to correct him. While Nanami seems to know exactly who this is, she doesn't even seem to bother with his shock at all, if anything. At least, not initially. ]
You're supposed to say it like this: "two?!" [ She attempts the surprised gasp and emotion, but it seems to fall a little flat as she looks at her counterpart. ] Like in that one scene, where that guy has to face his friend who suddenly makes two weapons appear in his hand instead of one. You remember that game, right...?
[ But enough about those game references for the time being. This is more important. ]
I guess you could say that there are two of us, though. Although we're kind of different, probably. Is it really that surprising, Nidai-kun?
nanami (dr3) → nidai → nanami (ai)
[Oh, wait. No, Nanami, focus.]
Sorry for the confusion... Both of us are still sort of figuring things out for ourselves, too. We're not completely different from each other, but we're not the same person either. It's certainly a little strange, but don't think about it too hard. For now, you can just think of the two of us as your classmates. [That's the most important part, anyway. That and being his friend.] It's good to see you, though, Nidai-kun. I'm glad you're here with us.
no subject
It's a little surprising! It's not every day that you meet two of the same person. [But he calms down with a huff of air.]
I'm still not sure that I understand this situation. But hey... it's good to see any number of you, Nanami! [His line of sight keeps switching between the two of them as he speaks, and his demeanor eases into something more light-hearted.] I haven't seen anyone I recognize in months now. Did you two just get here? Are you alright?!
no subject
[ She actually has her ideas, but right now they're things that she isn't exactly certain if she should say it right now, in front of the other Nanami. ] We did just get here, but we're okay, I think. Or at least, I'm okay.
no subject
It's odd, though, that we're the only ones here and not the rest of the class... I wonder if there's some reason for it. [She shakes her head. They can likely figure that part out later.] I'm sorry you were the only one of us here for so long, Nidai-kun... But I'm glad we're together here now.

...Na...nami?
[He looks between the two of them, his voice trailing off. Is he still in the program?] What's going on?
no subject
[ Nanami shakes her head slightly, even though the words come off a little slowly. Even though the orientation had given some answers, she came out of it with more questions than answers, in the end. ]
This isn't- [ -the Neo World Program. She doesn't finish finish that sentence, hand at her chest. ] Sorry, Hinata-kun.
no subject
[She freezes when she sees him, heart leaping in her chest. Nanami doesn't know why she'd been so worried - perhaps because of the way she saw him last? - but his eyes don't worry her the way they did before. It's a tiny bit harder to read them then it was back when the sadness had been so clear in his eyes, like he'd lost something important, but... Something about him is undeniably different, even down to the way he carries himself, but she doesn't think that it's bad. Even the sadness in his eyes seems... stronger, even though that feels weird to think. But she's so relieved.
Something aches in her at the other Nanami's apology, though, and she recalls the words the girl had spoken to her before. About how she'd never gotten to say goodbye. She hopes that this, whatever it is that's winded them up here, will give the three of them a chance they didn't have before.]
The two of us are still trying to... figure things out, I think. It's kind of confusing. But we both remember different things before ending up here and it's... strange. Something is strange about all of this.
But... I'm glad that you're here. We can try to figure it out together.
no subject
Then let's go back over this. What can you tell me is so different about what you two remember? ...and it's okay. You...you protected us. By every means you could. [He follows that with a quiet grateful look at the slower speaking Nanami.]
no subject
[ She looks at her counterpart for a moment as if to confirm those words before she tugs her lips into a soft smile, hand at her heart. ]
I know, but... I'm still sorry, Hinata-kun. That I couldn't do more.
no subject
[She lets her gaze drop, guiltily. Nanami probably shouldn't even be apologizing when she isn't sure what's going on with the three of them, but... Maybe it's better for her to say it than not. But she manages to look back up at the other Nanami.] You, Nanami-san... It wasn't like that for you at all, right? Because you told me you didn't have a chance to say goodbye to Hinata-kun.
[Which is worse, really? Saying goodbye and leaving everything important unsaid? Or not having been able to say goodbye at all?]
