Unlike Wanda, Thor is not accustomed to the occasional bout of floating. In fact, he'd go as far as saying that it's generally a very bad sign.

Luckily, he'd exited his room long before the doors locked him out. It means he can be outside his room to be completely useless in zero gravity. Turns out you can't just will yourself to be back on solid ground, which means he isn't of much help to anyone in this situation.

He's getting the hang of pulling himself along the ceiling and walls, even in the dark. He just looks incredibly awkward doing it, as a 6'4 wall of muscle. When Wanda happens upon him, he can't help looking just a little despondent. He thought he was doing so well, but she's flourishing. Hardly seems fair.

"What gave you that impression?" He quirks a brow at her.

Thor would much prefer it if nobody could see him now, but he doesn't mind that it happens to be Wanda he's met with. There's still that tiny niggle of wariness in the back of his mind, mostly because he's still extremely bothered by his visions. Of course, he'd be the last person to believe that a person can't change for the better. Loki managed to, in the end.

"I'd prefer a great many things over this." Dryly. So dryly. He's not quite sure how those powers of hers work, but he's not about to turn her down.

"If you would, please. I'm of far better use on my feet."

The slow decline is greatly appreciated, even if he could have landed like a sack of potatoes falling off a cliff with no problems. He grunts in relief when his feet touch the ground and he takes a moment to soak in how nice it feels to be solid again.

"If I were the only one struggling, there would be great cause for concern." He doesn't sound too smug when he says that, at least. "Have you encountered any signs that might lead us to the source of struggle?"

"Then we should go hunting, I suppose." He's already come to understand that she's allied herself almost fully with the Avengers now. At least, she was. He doesn't really know much of what happened when he was gone, he just knows he considers her an ally.

"If you're willing, of course."

Jyn's not a morning person -- her nightmares and insomnia leave her feeling like she has constant poor sleep -- but she is used to the thrum and slight vibration of the ship's engine so when it abruptly shuts down, Jyn stirs awake. Her fingers curl against the front of Cassian's shirt briefly as she makes a questioning noise, eyes opening despite her desire to keep sleeping to find Cassian awake, too, and looking at her carefully.

It's too dark to really see much, but the ambient light from the window at least gives some light to the room so they aren't plunged into complete darkness. Her torch is shoved somewhere in the desk which is clearly too far away to bother getting at the moment.

"The engines shut off," she mumbles, aware that she's stating the obvious. The engines are off, the power seems to be out, she can imagine what other systems are down if the power is non-functional.

Which is unfortunate because she has to pee.

"Mhm," comes Cassian's reply, and then he's immediately distracted by the fact that the gravity has given out, the lightest objects in the world slowly moving away from where they were, unmoored by the regulated gravity.

Gravity is dead, engine is dead. Cassian's eyes cut towards the ceiling. How long until the oxygen fails? He screws them shut, and sighs.

"Seems like more than just the engine."

Jyn groans, frustrated, because she really has to pee and she doesn't relish using the facilities sans gravity. She can hold it for now. It takes the barest hint of pressure to push the blankets off her as she kneels to look out the window, fingers curling around the sill to keep herself steady.

"I can't see any other lights on, it must be the whole fleet." She glances over at Cassian, solemn mouth set into a steady frown. "We're drifting."

Dead in the water as far as pirates or smugglers would be concerned, a prime target. Too many years bouncing from planet to planet had made her ill at ease for any long period of time spent on a ship but the Eluvio was so large it was practically it's own city and Jyn had allowed herself to soften. Those hard edges are back. "Maybe we'll freeze before we suffocate."
ouzel: (you think the worst of all)

[personal profile] ouzel 2017-02-16 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Cassian eases himself into an upright position as Jyn goes to the window, expression blank. He isn't sure how he feels about this. A slow death of freezing followed by the possibility of losing all the oxygen?

Not the death he'd imagined the first time around, and not the one he'd gotten either. Nor is it appropriate for this second chance at living, as far as he's concerned.

"Maybe," he says, frowning and shaking his head. "Maybe the power will come back on."

[personal profile] realists 2017-02-17 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
"Maybe," Jyn echoes, but it's clear she doesn't believe it. Again, she's discouraged by the idea of time. They're living on a borrowed amount so huge it would be impossible to pay back and it feels like there's always going to be some looming, deadly threat to remind them that they should be dead. They would be dead. They are dead.

Luckily, she cares more about Cassian and Kay and Chirrut than she cares about herself and so she doesn't decide to just strap herself down to the bed and sleep through her eventual death of cold or lack of oxygen.

"Makes me wish you'd had your parka on Scarif." Sure it would have been riddled with blaster fire and probably ruined, but even then it would be warmer than anything else she has. Only Cassian Andor could save her life repeatedly wearing a fluffy jacket, a special skill, she supposes.

That comment gets his face to actually do something suddenly, Cassian's expression going from blank to focused with an edge of fond. "I had been looking for something to replace it." Before she and Bodhi showed up, before Oros, before he decided there were more important things than replacing his damned coat.

Maybe he should have listened to that niggling bother on the subject.

Shaking himself a little Cassian moves from the bed to reach around below it (it's bolted down so at least they don't have to worry about floating furniture doing them in) before he pulls out a bag.

It's red and white.

"These are for you." Fuck death for screwing up his romantic Earth holiday rendition.

Jyn looks askance at the bag like it personally offends her. Maybe like a bull, the sight of red enrages her. (It's not really the red and she isn't enraged, but bemusement knits her eyebrows together.) He could have unearthed a torch or a sweater or his missing parka, but instead it's a bag and she's loitered around the shop long enough to recognize it as a gift bag.

She does not take it.

"Do you think now is really the time, Andor?" Oh no, she's cross. The lone use of his surname is reserved for when she is too irritated (by either him or the universe as a whole, the latter of which is more likely in general) to consider him a friend and instead relegates him to a work associate.
ouzel: (where's this going to?)

It's probably really bad that his immediate reaction to her annoyance is amusement, right? He understands why she is disinterested, he does, but. He had plans. He's let other things, bigger things, better things, get in the way of those plans too much in his short life. Short afterlife. Whatever.

Let him be stubborn about this for once.

"I made them for you and it isn't as though there's a plethora of things to eat in here."

Well if Jyn isn't going to take the bag he'll just let go of it and make his way to the wardrobe instead, and dig out useful things. Like a pair of sweaters and a light that runs on a battery that is supposed to last for years (he bought several of the batteries). "Most of my emergency gear is onboard the ships."

Because you never know.

Wait.

"You made what?"

Despite her better judgement, Jyn reaches out to snatch the bag out of the air before it floats away, even if she assumes with some impatience, with herself for being so predictable, that that was the whole reason for letting go of the bag to begin with. Cassian making food isn't new, their kitchenette gets good use, honestly, in his quest to make Jyn eat. Cassian making her something that is more of a gift than a meal is... different.

Her curiosity, traitorious thing, gets the best of her and she paws the bag open only to let the chocolates spill out into the gravity free room, floating around her like many chocolate snowflakes. "Is that--" Her head snaps to Cassian. "Is this..?"

"Chocolates." Cassian sighs at his unfinished knitting projects. If the life support comes back on, and they don't freeze to death, he needs to better prioritize his downtime. More than one of the scarves should've been finished by now, but he takes the one that is done and lets it unfurl in Jyn's general direction.

She looks a sight, with the small colorful chocolates floating around her, and Cassian wishes he had some way of committing the image to more than just memory.

"You should try one, tell me what you think."

"There's so many." More chocolate than she's ever seen in her life. Maybe not cumulatively, but definitely at once. The chocolates are escaping this way and that, but at Cassian's prompting she plucks one floating near her elbow and takes a tiny nibble.

Well, she starts with a nibble. Once the chocolate melts against her tongue she closes her eyes with an expression of helpless delight and shoves the entire piece in her mouth at once.

If they're going to die, she's going to die with a belly full of chocolate.

Perhaps he should be a little weirded out by the fact that Wanda is greeting him before he even gets around the corner, but--

Well, there had been stranger things that had happened, and honestly, Tony is too close to exhaustion right now to muster up the ability to be anything other than amused. Wanda looks-- otherworldly. That was a good way to put it. Wrapped up in snaking ribbons of red power, contrasted against the dark of the ship.

Snapping the faceplate of his suit up, he raises a brow at her. "Friday. Has been for-- a long while."

There is something else, right there on the tip of his tongue, but he swallows it back before letting his gaze flicker behind her before back to her face.

"Take it you are doing that thing where you reorder reality a little bit, huh?"

closed ☄ jyn & chirrut

[personal profile] realists 2017-02-16 12:51 am (UTC)(link)

Having non-functional comms is not a new thing for Jyn, she'd tried and failed to raise Bodhi and Chirrut and Baze and even Melshi half a dozen times on Scarif to radio silence so not being able to hail Chirrut is... irritating, but it doesn't disable her completely. It simply means she and Cassian have to split up to find Kay and Chirrut.

It's also what finds her grumbling as she pulls herself down the corridor with her torch hooked to her belt. Maybe she's mad about the gravity outage, maybe she's mad about the darkness, maybe she is mad because Cassian is a son of a bitch. Who knows.

(Spoilers, she doesn't give a shit about the dark or the gravity.)

She doesn't have a particular destination in mind but she assumes if she wanders around long enough she will just stumble into Chirrut. And if not, she'll head to the rendezvous point to meet up with Cassian and Kay and they can all find Chirrut together. After probably slapping Cassian again, he's had a slappable face this morning. She's barely paying attention, but she still recognizes the sound of a stick hitting the wall and she breathes out a sigh of relief.

"Good morning, Chirrut."

"Good morning," Chirrut returns mildly, but only after weighing a few other equally foolish responses. Coming in a close second was a complaint about difficult it was to see when everything was off, but now he's commited himself to this line. "It's very quiet today, ideal for prayer and meditation."

It makes navigating far easier despite the lack of gravity, though he'd prefer the hum of powered objects and whisper of air circulation in the background. There is a deeply disturbing lack of just that, one that drives Chirrut out to find the others. That, guided by the Force, he was drawn to Jyn first is of no particular surprise.

It is, however, some relief.

Almost, but not quite.

Chirrut shifts just out of the way in a manner that could have been pure luck, his hand not occupied by his staff coming up and reaching as if to steady her if she needs it. He is not unaccustomed to these little near misses, though they are more common in far busier halls.

"Are you alright?" he asks without quite facing her, his voice kind and good humored.
