WHO: Sabriel
WHERE: Around Bajikan and the Eluvio
WHEN: Throughout the event
WHAT: Sabriel tries to get used to her new surroundings
WARNINGS: None so far?
Eluvio
[Sabriel looks... well, lost would be putting it mildly. Especially since her sword and armor make her look positively archaic. She feels less like a grown, competent Abhorsen, and more like a frightened schoolgirl once again, out of her depth and not sure what dangers she faces.
Aside from conjuring some lights during a blackout, Sabriel doesn't use any magic until she gets to her bunk-she's surrounded by technology that's already erratic, no need to make things worse- but after she closes the door to her quarters, people nearby may notice the lights flickering as a chill mist seeps out from the door and frost slowly creeps over it as the air temperature drops.]
Ira
[Sabriel's mostly spending time at weapon shops, admiring the wares, and occasionally testing the balance of a sword or a knife, or asking questions about guns and other technically advanced weapons. They might be useless against more supernatural opponents, but Sabriel isn't sure what foes she might face here- or if she'll face any at all.
She's also able to make a some money here by placing spells on weapons- and healing those who've overestimated their abilities in combat. As time goes on though, Sabriel starts to get tired of this- Maybe it's just something about this place, maybe it's just that she's sick of dealing with people. Whichever it is, she's storming away, one hand already on her sword.]
Superbia
[Initially? Sabriel goes in simply to get a haircut, and to check her surroundings. But she feels... good here. More sure of herself than she has since she arrived on the Eluvio. After her haircut, she heads to the beach to watch the sunset and meditate on the Charter without being surrounded by technology.
Meditating on the Charter was soothing, and magic was something she knew she was good at. She had the raw power, all she needed was the experience and skill to fully use it. So why not practice?
By the time the sun has set, Sabriel's surrounded by shining, golden symbols, Charter marks she's linking together into an intricate pattern. It's a spell she's familiar with, but had always been cautious about casting. Now though? Now she feels like it should be easy.]
Avaritia
[Between spending most of her childhood and teenage years at a boarding school, and then becoming Abhorsen, Sabriel has rarely had the opportunity or resources to engage in shopping as a recreational activity. Here though... well, she's starting to see the appeal. There are so many things, so many clothes, such pretty jewelry, and so many things she couldn't have imagined existed, let alone dreamed were possible. Sabriel tries to restrain herself, to focus on finding practical, useful items, she found herself drawn to more trivial things. A blue and gold tea set, a locket that could turn memories into sounds and record them, a hair clip with little bells that chimed sweetly ever time the wearer moved their head... Sabriel forces herself back to looking at more practical clothes, although in this place even those seem to be finely made, with good quality material.]

Eluvio
Uh, hey. Anyone in there? You OK?
[ Because that seems like a bad sign. A part of him remembers the cave on Dagobah and he shrugs that memory off. Nothing to think about or drag back up.]
no subject
What- did something happen?
no subject
Luke frowns. ]
No, nothing happened. Just some lights flickering and fog rolling out of your room.
[ Because that happens every day.]
And -- you look kind of cold, actually.
no subject
Well, the ship's been having blackouts and other technical problems, as I understand it. [Which has been useful cover for her. By now, the frost has melted, leaving her looking slightly damp.]
And I was- meditating, and practicing using one of my abilities. I expected the room to get cold, but I didn't expect it to spread outside.
no subject
Yeah, tell me about it. It's been a real pain - I'm not sure we can fix all of it-
[ Meditation? Luke perks slightly, a smile starting to tug at the corner of his features. He can... maybe help with that? ]
Meditating? I've been working on that too. What sort of abilities? I know everyone here as all sorts of stuff - well, I do. I'm a Jedi.
[ It all comes spilling out in a slightly awkward but enthusiastic jumble. ]
no subject
I'm a Charter mage- I use magic. [It's the vaguest description possible, but Sabriel's not sure if anyone will believe a more detailed one. Or if anyone believes magic exists in the first place.]
no subject
Magic? You mean... the Force? Or, I guess, like the Force? Some kind of energy field?
[ He kind of grasps the concept. His brow furrows and he folds his arms. ]
What's the "Charter" mean?
no subject
I suppose you could describe it as a sort of force, though.
no subject
[ Luke scratches at his cheek. That sounds exactly like the Force as far as he's concerned and he opens his mouth to say as much when realizes that he basically just interrupted her in the middle of something and now he's asking weird questions. The sudden shifting of gears is visible on his face as he starts to try and backpedal a little. ]
Uh, sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt. I just thought...
[ That someone might be in trouble. ]
no subject
[Is he some sort of mage as well? He doesn't have a Charter mark though.]
no subject
[ Luke nods. That makes sense, right? He's mostly parroting his old master(s). ]
no subject
Do you also practice a baptism rite?
no subject
[ Luke looks confused for a moment, as if he's trying to place the word and then he laughs and shakes his head. ]
No, no, nothing like that. Just a lot of training and meditation. I'm pretty sure my old master went hard on me deliberately, too...
no subject
no subject
[ Again, long story. But he's doing his best to explain. ]
I'm still sort of in training myself.

Today's been an eventful trip and he's currently walking down the street with a large thing floating along behind him. Every so often he casts a wary glance back at it—huragoks were part of the Covenant once and he'll always be wary of former Covenant aliens—but it doesn't attack him or anyone else. It just follows him placidly, occasionally touching his shoulder with one of its creepy tentacles.
He's in the process of twisting around to slap the thing off of him again and shout at the big gas bag to knock it the fuck off when he walks right into something. Someone, he realizes as he whips back around, too late to pull out of the collision. ]
Hey. [ There's no real bite to it when he says it to her. He's too busy slapping at the huragok's tentacle for that. ] Watch where I'm going, huh?
no subject
At which point she almost drops what she's holding again.]
What are you?
[She's not afraid- whatever it is, it's neither Dead, supernatural, or obviously threatening, but even after several days of strange sights, it still looks bizarre. Rather, she looks at it with undisguised awe and wonder. She shifts her purchases around so she can hold out her hand to it.]
no subject
I'm human. [ He says it with all the confidence of someone who believes that she's talking to him. Then, after a beat, he jerks his thumb over his shoulder at the floating thing behind him. ] And that's a huragok.
[ And because it knows that it's being discussed, even if it doesn't speak a language understandable to most others, it offers one of its tentacles to her in mimicry of a handshake. ]
no subject
I see. I'm a human as well. I've never met a huragok before. [Out of habit, she bows a little to both of them, pushing aside her hair to reveal the faint mark on her forehead.] My name is Sabriel. I'm a Charter Mage.
[Not that she expects them to know what that means but it will hopefully keep them from being too surprised if they see her using magic.
Hopefully.]
no subject
He's listening to her, though. Except what she says doesn't make a whole lot of sense to him. Charter Mage? Felix cocks his head, frowning slightly in confusion. ]
Charter mage? What is that? Some kind of roleplaying thing?
[ Even in the twenty-sixth century, Dungeons and Dragons endures. ]
no subject
Like this.
no subject
Or maybe just a damn good illusion. ]
So that's... [ Flash powder? He points to the space the little light. ] What is that?
no subject
I just drew the right symbol out of the Charter and traced it out.
no subject
Like a magic spell? Real magic? Not that stage magician illusion shit?
[ That can't be right. Can it? ]
no subject
[Sabriel shakes her head, looking at him curiously.]
Would you like another demonstration?
Superbia
Her antics eventually take her to the beach, and it's here where she sees a young woman surrounded by... something. Colette isn't sure what. Golden symbols?
The effects of the district mean she's not at all shy in her approach, but a lifetime of good manners keep her from interrupting right away. She stands nearby a few paces, head angled in obvious curiosity and pink wings gently flapping behind her]
no subject
Suddenly, Sabriel's far less sure that this was a good idea.]
no subject
Um... is that how those lights are supposed to work? [She says, while allowing herself to hover over the sand. Just In Case.]
no subject
It is, I just didn't expect the effect to be so powerful. [Her voice suddenly sounds hoarse, like she spent all day shouting.]
no subject
You must be amazing then! [Eyes brightening a little. How surprising, this girl must be as cool as her. Maybe. But that doesn't stop Colette from looking on in some concern when she hears how strained that voice is]
Are you okay?
no subject
I just need a day or two to heal.
no subject
[Once the water has settled back to the sea, Colette sets herself on the ground again.]
What were you trying to do? Get the sea to move?

He's more focused on the guns, though— they're more his style, more what he's used to— and he can't help eavesdropping a little when she starts asking the owner questions. Specifically, that the owner is taking some, ah, liberties with the specs of the weapon to try and make a sale to someone who doesn't know any better.]
Hey. [It's accompanied by a flare of old, familiar anger.] Whatever this fucker's telling you, forget it. You'd be better off shooting one of those foam dart guns than that piece of shit.
[way harsh bro]
no subject
Then which would you recommend? [Her tone is more curious than frustrated this time.]
no subject
— Depends. What're you tryin' to do with it?

[That charming comment delivered, he leans both elbows on the display, and points at a slim semi-automatic pistol on her other side.]
That one. The magazine's nothing to brag about, but the kickback's not bad, and it's not gonna jam every five seconds like this piece of shit over here. If you're keeping it for emergencies, it'll do the job.
no subject
[Sabriel picks the pistol up. Her grip is awkward, but she knows enough to keep it pointed away from everyone.]
Well, it's not too heavy. Would it be easy to get more ammunition if I run out?
