WHO: Son Goku and others. Goku and Ukoku.
WHERE: Anywhere you want around the starship and then at the food court.
WHEN: January 6th
WHAT: Goku is a curious monkey trying to figure things out and make friends. Come make friends with him. Then he tries to have a nice meal and gets mercilessly bullied.
WARNINGS: Possibly violence at some point.
A.
[Goku tried to follow along with orientation, really he did. But he'd been worried and confused and they'd used a lot of long words that he'd never heard before. And some words he had heard before that apparently meant things he didn't know they'd meant. Also they spoke really fast and didn't answer his questions properly, even when he raised his hand. But, after a day or two to get his head around it and to talk to other people, Goku thinks he's gotten the important bits down.
a) He's in space, far away from Earth, floating in the middle of nowhere.
b) Sanzo, Gojyo, Hakkai and Jeep aren't nearby.
He's more concerned about the latter than the former, funnily enough. Who knows what kind of trouble the guys could get into without him there? He can't leave everything to Jeep, as sensible as the dragon is. He's gotta get back!
For now, the only thing he can think to do is explore the starship and look for answers. Maybe make some friends who can help him out- he's sure he's not the only one who wants to get back fast. People are likely to spot a curious monkey running around just about anywhere. From the medbay, to the shopping center, to the hangar, to getting lost in the black market... Goku is running down halls, peeking around corners and maybe accidentally breaking something he shouldn't have been touching and trying to hide it quickly before anyone notices.]
Hey! What are you doing? [Working on something? Trying to mind your own business? Don't mind Goku hovering by your shoulder.] Can I help?
B.
[After a day of running around and getting underfoot, Goku is understandably starving. The food court in the shopping center looks like paradise to him- so many restaurants! All so reasonably priced! Selling bananas is a dumb job but Goku's gathered enough change to buy himself a decent meal. He gets as much food as he can and spreads it out on a table, just for him!
One table.
Just for him.
On his own.
With all this food that he doesn't have to fight anyone for. With no one to scold him for spending too much or for his terrible manners. A nice, quiet meal... On his own.
Despite the crowds filling up the shopping center, Goku feels like it really is very quiet at the table. Slowly, he starts to eat some spring rolls, all the energy he'd been brimming with before suddenly fading.]

[She shakes her head to clear it] Spirits and things like that; I've only ever used it against ghosts. I don't really know the ins and outs of it... One my ancestors invented it. [Which is pretty cool, she supposes, but more importantly:]
You believe me?
no subject
[But ghosts aren't a worry for Goku. They just go through stuff anyway. Still, he's impressed! But then he's confused.]
Huh? Of course I believe ya! [...] Wait, were you making it up?
[WERE YOU TRYING TO TRICK HIM?]
no subject
She quickly shakes her head] No, it's true, it's just... Most people don't just accept it. If you say things like "I can see and talk to ghosts" people usually think you're crazy or making it up.
no subject
I guess it is pretty weird. But it'd be weird to lie about it too, right? And you don't seem crazy.
no subject
[AH, well. When he puts it that way, it seems almost plausible.] I don't think I'm crazy, at least. Not really. [That's sort of a joke. Maybe. She puts the camera away now though, hiking the bag up on her shoulder again. She gestures for Goku to walk with her as she heads towards... the shopping center?? Huh.] Besides, I wouldn't want to lie about it anyway. Someone who would has obviously never actually fought a ghost before or met one.
no subject
[Actually, some humans are scarier than youkai! Goku walks alongside Mio, not really paying attention to where they're going.]
I dunno if I've ever really met any ghosts.
no subject
Well, it's a bit more complicated than that, I guess... There's a lot of different types in the stories.
[She frowns a little and lowers her hands to her sides again, shrugging.] ..You wouldn't want to. Most of them aren't very nice.
no subject
[Even if they won't admit it. Fear and hate go hand in hand and there's a lot of that in Shangri'la right now.]
... Did you try talking to them? [Goku, don't start comparing ghosts to youkai in your head, don't do that.]
no subject
She can get some context clues here that humans and youkai aren't on good terms where he's from, and it makes her look at him curiously] Well... If you can fight them so easily, of course you don't find them scary. [But she supposes it's like with anything else--there are good and bad sides to both. Lord knows humans can be the worst of the worst. She smiles wryly and scratches her cheek.] But I guess you're right. Probably there are youkai who just want to live as much as humans do and be left alone. A lot of the stories say there are youkai who bring good luck too; a lot of them stress you should be nice and polite, and usually youkai will respond in kind. I guess that's true about a lot of things.
[She's musing out loud, but goku's question gets a sharp, irritated look.] Most of them don't give me the chance. Most spirits are blinded by hatred for the living, or they're trying to do what they died doing, regardless of who gets hurt in the way. Most of them are corrupted or like... pieces. They're not whole, so they can't be talked to or anything. My camera hurts them, yeah, but it's not like I can kill them again. It-- [How does she explain] It's more like it heals them, I guess, so their soul can move on.
[There are exceptions, of course. She'd been able to talk to Itsuki, after all, but she considers him a deviant from the norm.]
no subject
[Aside from the Minus Wave making them want to eat humans. But that doesn't count. It's kind of weird listening to Mio talk about youkai like they're creatures from a story. Sure, there are youkai with weird powers, but in Goku's experience most of them aren't that different from humans and for as long as he's known anything about the world, youkai have been a normal part of it.]
Dealing with ghosts sounds rough... When youkai attack, we just kill 'em. But it sounds more like you're just helping them, right? Ghosts are supposed to move on and reincarnate and stuff, I think... Ah, I dunno about that stuff.
[Maybe Sanzo would, but maybe he wouldn't. Oh, well, Mio seems to understand well enough.]
no subject
She looks a little amused at his attempt of an explanation and hums lightly in acknowledgement.] Yeah, something like that. I guess it's something a priest or priestess is supposed to help with... [And she supposes she counts as one, or something.] Anyway, I think I've only met one or two that I could actually talk with.
[Which makes her think about talking to youkai, which makes her think--] Did you talk to a lot of youkai? [He seems to know a bit about them and he was pretty quick to defend them. Maybe some of his friends were youkai?]
no subject
Sanzo's sort of like a priest [only sort of???] so he might know about that stuff, but I don't think I've ever seen him talkin' to ghosts.
[Anyway, Sanzo isn't here (or, at least, the right Sanzo isn't here). Uh, but, speaking of Goku's friends-] Yeah, I guess so! I talk to lotsa people!
no subject
She's starting to seriously doubt the religious order of his world.]
Yeah, you seem the type to try and make friends with everyone. [She says it with an amused look, before glancing around the area. She's definitely led them to the shopping center, and specifically towards the clothing stores. Everything is fine.]
no subject
Not everyone! [He's so selective about his friend making, Mio. He swears.] Just nice people!
[Goku keeps following her, still paying no attention to where they're going! He's been trying to go everywhere anyway.]
no subject
Mio laughs a little] And almost everyone's probably nice to you. It's hard not to be. You're going to have the entire ship on your side by the end of the week.
[Wandering to one of the clothing stores, grabbing a shirt at almost-random and... holding it up thoughtfully to Goku...]
no subject
[But honestly, normal priests suck anyway. He prefers Genjo and Sharak. Ukoku can go fall off a cliff.]
Some people are mean! I know plenty of jerks! [... And a fair number of them love him despite themselves. Mio may have a point.] ... Whatcha doin'?
no subject
Mio can't say she disagrees, but given the priest-ghosts she met that's understandable probably. Priests suck.
She laughs again despite herself and tilts her head thoughtfully.] You said you wanted to help, right? I need someone to hold my bags. [She's trying to look innocent about it.] And I figured you might need new clothes too, since you haven't been here that long, right?
[Monkey dress-up!]
no subject
[Shopping, ugh. He'll do it, but he's got to whine like a kid.]
I've already got clothes, I don't need any!
[Like the ones he's... wearing...]
no subject
[She shakes the shirt at him] What are you going to do when one gets dirty? You can't run around in your underwear! [Well he could but don't.]
Besides, it'll be fun! Think of it like a game. A game where you get to keep the prizes at the end. [Prizes she's paying for.]
no subject
[He hasn't been here long enough yet, but left to his own devices Goku will absolutely wash his clothes in the bathroom sink and then let them dry overnight while he just hangs out in his bedroom naked. It could be worse.]
I'm not a little kid, you know... [Shopping isn't a game... It actually is pretty fun, though, he actually likes it.] ... Okay, fine.
no subject
You're not? [Her tone is teasing and she tosses the shirt over his head.
She turns away to find a rack of rather ridiculous looking futuristic sunglasses. Do they need sunglasses on a spaceship?? She pops on a silver-y pair, large and shimmery and gaudy, and turns to him in mock-seriousness] How do they look? [The lenses are huge on her face, she kinda looks like a bug.]
no subject
Goku pulls the shirt off his head and looks it over, before he looks back up at Mio.] ... [Leans in close to get a good look.]
... Like a praying mantis or somethin'. [Goku, you flirt.]
no subject
She tenses a bit in surprise as he leans in, but she holds still, watching him behind the lenses. His comment makes her laugh and she puts her hands up, fingers curled to resemble claws. She bares her teeth and makes a 'grr' noise, as if imitating a monster.
A pause and her face goes a little surprised.] I guess that's not what a praying mantis says. [Work with her here, she's trying]
no subject
Goku laughs at the growl as well and leans back again.] A really big one might growl! You don't know!
no subject
[She's curious! She pulls off another pair--they're black with flames, the m'lady is strong with this one. While she doesn't put them on herself, she does turn to try and slide them on his face] Here try these ones.
