[ THE HANGAR ]
( it comes as no surprise to rey that it takes no time at all for her to end up surrounded by ships. she's still not entirely convinced that this isn't some weird first order trick, but if it isn't then it's just plain weird. either way she's happiest when she's around vehicles, so that's where rey ends up. the place may be strange but this isn't, and the smell of the hangar is immediately familiar to her. it even manages to tease a smile out of her otherwise scowly face.
at any given point she can be found nosing around various ships. mostly she's content to just lurk from the outside, but occasionally she'll push her luck and climb up the outside to get a better look at things. she's got her mask on though, so there's maybe some plausible deniability if she gets caught? maybe. probably not, honestly.
she starts warming up to the area quite quickly, enough so that she's happy to start experimenting a little with the tools available. there's things that need fixing all over the place -- including the workers -- and rey very ""helpfully"" invites herself to join the crew. is she useful? yes. has she been in any way invited to join in with repair work? no. not at all. she also has some very specific ideas about how exactly some parts should be fixed, which she is glad to make known very loudly. feel free to stop the girl arguing with an actual robot at any point, because she's not looking likely to calm down.
as the days begin to wind down, rey should probably find her bunk. and yet here she is, still lurking in the hangar working away. when she's finally tired enough to call it quits, she just finds a ship with their entrance open and sleeps just inside the main doors. sorry to anyone who actually owns it, rey's only planning on staying a few hours at most, she swears. )
[ THE ATRIUM ]
( this place transfixes her for entirely the opposite reasons to the hangar. growing up on jakku, rey has barely experienced greenery like this, so she becomes kind of obsessed with the rooms. she mostly avoids the zen gardens and sand, not because it bothers her so much as having very little interest in the place, but the gardens.
well she just adores the gardens.
rey is pretty much always barefoot when she's in here, practically running around like a kid in a candy store. her eyes are alight, beaming completely unhindered as she explores every nook and cranny of the place. when she's done that she climbs a tree and sets herself up for a while, idly watching the other people visiting the atrium from her vantage point. it's not at all creepy, she swears. occasionally she might drop her head out of the foliage to greet a stranger, but for the most part she stays hidden. she loves it up here. )
[ SOMETHING ELSE? ]
( let's get weird. if you've got something in mind, throw me a random starter or hit me up for questions! feel free to request your own personalised starter! if you want to work out how to make tdm threads work for canon, hit me up and we'll figure it out! )

THE HANGER
[ there used to be a time when she wouldn't have taken pride in that name, but now it's all she has left of her family, all she has left of her parents. a name and a crystal and she clings to both of them with a quiet ferocity. ]
I've never been to Jakku, but I heard it's rubbish. [ all sand and garbage, saw never had any reason to send his precious little soldier to a planet like that. probably because there was little likelihood of it being a hot bed of imperial and rebel activity. ]
no subject
back to jakku. if the amused look on her face is anything to go by, it's pretty clear that rey has no fondness for the place. she's certainly not going to be the one to defend it, even if it hasn't been long since she'd been desperate to get back. ) Sand and junk and lost tourists, that's all there is to Jakku.
( she shrugs, kicking her foot lightly against the floor. she can't deny that she hates jakku more than she does most things, but it's still her home. she almost feels guilty badmouthing it. )
What's your home like? It had to have been more interesting than Jakku, right?
no subject
Home is-- [ cassian. bodhi. chirrut and baze. never letting melshi forget all her fantasies about beating him up. ] I never stayed anywhere long enough to call it home, not since I was a little girl and Lah'mu was just dirt and rain.
[ misty grey beaches and rocky outcroppings and so much mud it was a wonder she stayed clean at all, tromping around in the wet grass with her cavalcade of dolls going on adventures. the real hero of the story is the person that produced a storm trooper doll that stayed white in the mud. real imperial heroes. ]

( it is, of course, a completely different terrain, but the fundamentals don't sound so different at all to rey. maybe she's just making assumptions, projecting some of her life onto this woman who strikes just enough of the same chords to feel familiar, but it sounds lonely. she understands that, at least. )
The only other place I've been is Tadokano, ( she admits with a kind of casualness that is supposed to mask how much the situation might actually bother her. it does not mask how the situation might actually bother her, like at all. ) apart from here, of course. Assuming here isn't some Force mind trick.
( she's like. ninety per cent sure it isn't. )

Not that he can sustain himself on fruit alone, but frankly, the fewer things he has to waste money on the better. Dealing with currency on a daily basis is going to be enough of a headache for him as it is.
Right now, though, he's just looking around the place, watching some of the ship's crew with casual and well-masked distrust, and easily spotting the few who got dragged in here like him. Eventually he stops near one of the fruit trees, reaching up to pluck one from the branches, only to startle when he realizes someone's currently perched up on the tree, hidden by the foliage. ]
... hi? [ Frowning, he pulls some branches aside so he can get a better look at the girl. ] What are you doing up there?
no subject
when someone interrupts her very deep thoughts ( including hits like "Now I Wonder What Will Happen If I Eat Seven Of These Fruits" and "How Long Ago Did My Butt Go Numb" ) she looks for a moment, all head tilts and frowns as if it's somehow illogical that another person could possibly be interested in the same tree. and then, she smiles. )
I was climbing. ( she shrugs slightly, slouching back comfortably against the branch-- nope, not really, it's actually very uncomfortable. time to sit back up again. maybe she should get down... ) What are you doing down there?
no subject
Looking for fruit. [ He purses his lips and lifts a shoulder, catching one of the fruits from the tree that looks more ripe. Taking a bite is enough for him to realize that it is not in fact ripe, and he winces at the bitter taste it spreads in his mouth. ]
I don't recommend the red ones.
no subject
( she probably should have warned him. you don't sit in a tree for over an hour without trying the fruit, after all. her grim expression turns somewhat sympathetic -- she's pretty sure she can still taste the bitterness in the back of her mouth despite positively drowning it out with the canteen slung at her hip.
she contemplates, just for a moment, how generous she's feeling, and then very abruptly slides off of her branch. it takes a swing or two but she makes it to the ground with relative ease, and once she's standing in front of kirk she jerks her chin in the direction of another tree a little distance away, with fruits so purple they look almost completely artificial )

the atrium
Looking up instinctively at the sound, Yuuri just barely holds back a shriek of surprise when he sees Rey peering down at him.]
What--what are you doing up there?!
no subject
that's probably worse than awkwardly announcing her hiding spot, in hindsight.
when she shocks the hell out of the poor unsuspecting soul who's stumbled upon her in a tree rey looks slightly apologetic. only slightly, she could probably stand to feel a little more guilty, all things considered. )
The view is nice. ( it's not. the foliage is too thick to actually see out of the tree, let alone the rest of the atrium, but honestly being surrounded by foliage is enough to delight rey. it'd take too long to explain all of that though, and the context behind her appreciation for greenery, so she just shrugs and tilts her head. ) What are you doing down there?
( as if it's somehow strange to just be walking on the ground like a normal person?? )
no subject
Everyone else walks down here, too. [Yuuri finally replies, still visibly confused.] And I don't really know how to climb trees either.
no subject
she lands on her feet, but like..just. )
Do you want me to teach you? It's not that hard.

guys love greenery I guess
His business, today, is seed collecting. A bed of flowers he mostly recognizes encircles the tree near the edge of its reach, where the flowers can get a little sunlight but not too much. They're little things, forest blooms he doubts he'll find a real use for, but they look nice and that's reason enough. Kneeling, he sends his energy into some bluebells, urging them to provide for him; the flowers begin to swell, petals bending back and withering as the seed pods they hide grow too large to contain. Finally, perhaps a second after his energy first made contact, the seed pods pop open and, with one more nudge, spill their seeds into Kurama's waiting hand.
Ta-da! Bet Rey never saw anything like that on Jakku.]
gotta find their 30 somehow right?
it's not like she hasn't seen weird things in her time, but never straight up magic. in no time at all she's clambering out of the tree, down the trunk and staring from a much closer vantage point. like a few feet a way kind of close. sorry, she's just really really impressed with that whole trick. )
How did you do that?
( she doesn't want to sound as impressed as she does, but rey's never been particularly good at hiding that sort of thing. besides, she's just way too focused on the 'how the hell can a person do that' angle to be too concerned. there really isn't anything like this on jakku, at all. )
they do!
I have a particular affinity for plants, so I've learned to use the energy within me to make them grow. Here.
[He picks one seed out of the pile with the thumb and index finger of his free hand and holds it out for the young woman in front of him to take and inspect as she will.]
no subject
( it's said completely honestly, rey really is every bit as impressed as she looks and sounds. she's seen more new and wonderful sights over the last few weeks than possibly in her entire lifetime, and even in this weird kidnapping space ship, there's still things going on that completely fascinate her. )
Are you going to plant them?
( she asks the question as she raises her palm up to inspect the seed closer, although she's not exactly sure what she's looking for. signs of magical tampering, maybe. )

now she's just kind of walking around inside.
it makes for an interesting sight at least, rey all masked up with her staff strapped to her back, poking around at every button and lever she comes across. she doesn't actually hit any of them, trying instead to work out what they control without actually activating. lord knows she doesn't need to go and set off alarms or canon blasters and end up back in the brig or something. she just wants to look! from up close! ...yeah, there's still no real justification.
the place is big enough that she actually manages to spend a decent amount of time alone there, but really she should have known her luck was about to run out. when it does, it's in spectacular fashion: she manages to work out how to open a door, barrels in all full of excitement and enthusiasm, and very abruptly stops when she realised that there's another person in there.
shit.
she'd probably just run, but when she turns on her heel the door has already shut behind her. well that's just great... )
no subject
All in all, it's pretty great. High-tech but cozy. Private.
In fact, he's gotten in the habit of wandering around wherever he wants without worrying too much about it, just like he's doing right now - toothbrush in his mouth, his phone in his hand as he scans the network, humming a tune under his breath. It's the movement of the door that catches his eye, and his head jerks up.
Standing right in front of him is some hell-creature in a weird mummy mask with huge insectoid goggles who looks like he (or she?) is trying to make a quick getaway. For half a second, Marco stands still, wide-eyed, mouth hanging slightly open, and then he screams - once, quick, high-pitched - and scrambles backward.]
Holy crap, man! Who are you? What are you doing here? Don't just sneak into a guy's ship like this! What the hell?!
no subject
( it takes her a moment to remember that he's the one who's allowed to be shocked and annoyed right now, not her. for a second she's all panicked frustration, the closed door immediately making her feel trapped, and it translates into her indignant little outburst. she does realise quite quickly that she's in the wrong though, and spins around to face the guy.
she'd planned on doing gruff voice play up the weird look card to try and muscle her way out, but now she's actually taking the time to get a look at him she thinks that maybe that's not necessary. she's got a good four inches on the guy, and even though height isn't exactly a perfect judge of a person's ability to beat you up and call the weird space cops, she feels a little more at easte all the same. )
Sorry, ( she hesitates a moment, then shoves her goggles up onto her head. ) there was a door open.
( this does not justify just walking in, of course, but she says it with a kind of finality that implies she thinks it's more than enough of an excuse. )

atrium;
Unlike a lot of people Cassian has made it a habit to occasionally look up; thus, he's startled (but pleasantly so) to see a girl, barefoot and grinning, in one of the trees. ]
Having fun?
no subject
( she'd totally just been jabbing it with her pinky )
head jerking down, rey sizes the person below her up very quickly before offering a smile, a rare one directed at a person not a plant. she's had a weird upbringing, okay, cut her some slack. )
Some. ( she answers vaguely, adjusting in her seat and waving the fruit so that cassian can see it. ) Have you tried this?
no subject
It's sweet, but there's this sharp tanginess to it. The meat of the fruit is blue, and it's not poisonous.
My friend Jyn and I bought a lot of fruit, recently.

Atrium
He'd had more important things to worry about at the time, but it had still been fascinating. Some of that awe has never quite gone away. Besides, the atrium is a decent place to try and practice his meditation. Today he's just on his way down to an isolated little spot he's found when he realizes that there's someone perched in the tree next to the walkway. He pauses and glances up with a little smile. ]
Hi there. Didn't realize they let you climb them!
no subject
apparently she doesn't deem this thought serious enough to actually get down, though. instead she just shrugs. )
I didn't ask. ( she admits, tapping her foot lightly against the branch she's sat on. ) Do you think we're not allowed?
( she'd really rather not visit the brig, honestly. not over tree climbing, at least. )
no subject
I don't know. Just seems like the kind of ship where they have rules like that.
[ He's been to planets like that. Fortunately, no one seems to be taking much umbrage with the whole tree-climbing thing right now. He glances over his shoulder, then back up at Rey. ]
I wouldn't worry too much about it, though. They're not that update.
