Oros mission start
WHO: ALPHA TEAM (Carolina, Maine, Wash, K-2SO, April, and Sam) and BETA TEAM (Lee, Somba, Hayatori, Cassian, and Re-L)
WHERE: Oros
WHEN: January 11-???
WHAT: Alpha and Beta teams begin their mission.
WARNINGS: TBD
Catch-all mingle log while Alpha and Beta travel together. Toss up a header for a specific day or event to keep things better organized and then everyone can tag around in that.
(Once we figure out when the sandstorm and fall into the gorge happens to split everyone up, we can add that too to close out the big group log.)

First Day
OTA - Alpha/Beta/Others
[No big deal.]
[At least he can keep an eye on his partner this way. Jyn wasn't here, nor were the others of their small group. He calculated the odds of Jyn being mad that she didn't get picked and felt they were high.]
[Good. He would smile if he were able to.]
[You can find the droid helping with cargo or set up for deployment. He's not wearing a suit of any sort, no helmet or jump suit, because what was the point. He was made to deal with this kind of thing. He was made to carry more than they had given him too, but at least he still had ease of motion.]
[Do you dare give the droid commands, like he was some common laborer? Or do you talk to him like he was part of a team? It’s a difference that will give a different attitude towards you and others, that’s for sure. Early that morning, Kay can be found going over a few things. They had given everyone weapons and packs, even the droid.]
Giving a droid a canteen of water seems a bit pointless. [He said out loud, yet tucked it away anyhow.] Spare, I suppose, for the needy.
HARSHING YOUR BUZZ K2
(this doesn't exactly sound overtly friendly, seeing as there's a great deal of sharpness in her voice. it's not personal— no, no, it is overwhelmingly personal, something that crawls over her skin like an infection she can't get rid of. she does and has put up with them before, in tense environments with a lot of distance between them. it's different, being on squadron with one.
trusting omnics isn't on her list of things to do, despite her current love-hate relationship with technology of all kinds.)
I mean, that's what you all want, right? Equality?
BUZZKILL
[He wasn't sure what she was getting at though.] I am more surprised they haven't given me a few more water packs to haul around for the rest of you.
[if a droid could look confused, the cant of his head indicated as much.]
Equality? [What a Weirdo.] We are hardly equal, and the last thing I want to be mistaken for is a human. [Kay.... that might not have come out like you meant it to sound...]

You'd be surprised how often command doesn't know or forgets to acknowledge that they've got a robot on the team.

[Kay-tu lifted his head as someone came up to him.]
Droid, actually. Robots have less higher thinking functions and are made to do simple tasks. Droids are programmed and built for more optimal needs. And I really wouldn't be surprised. Even my own Captain forgets I can be more helpful to him than most.
[He stood his full height, head tilted to look down at the organic.] Hello.

A little extra in the way of supplies never hurt anyone. [ Small talk was becoming something a little more common for Re-L, over time - the whole being around a small, chatty companion type autoreiv and Vincent had worked her from annoyance to simply responding without very much thought. Friendly would be a stretch, but with the way she's torn her pack apart and is reorganizing to the way she would prefer it should say a lot about how Re-L was as a person.
She shakes her own canteen and makes a small hum of acknowledgement. ]
These will need to be refilled once we establish safe sources of water anyway, it would seem.
[ A pause, a glance at the droid, and then - ] You don't have any potential way to scan for contaminants, do you? It's a shot in the dark but Pino managed to shock me with what she was programmed with.
no subject
I have a limited range in bio scanning, but I can confirm if water is drinkable for a standard human. A deeper analysis might be better, however. A test kit should be packed for these reasons, or equipment, if they have it here.
I suppose though, I am equipment to these people...
[and a careful beat before...] Pino?

travel
(a hop, skip, and jump away from her, sombra double-times it to catch up easily, more than content to annoy warm-blooded people as well as the omnic from earlier. no one can escape it, really, she has a job to do and that involves far more than capturing some stupid artifact they're never going to see again — or even find out what its purpose is... if she has anything to say about it, though...
well, she's renowned for having very sticky fingers when it comes to information she shouldn't be playing with.)
You're underestimating everyone on this team, aren'tcha? I mean, Maine and Washington you obviously know, but don't let the rest of us down by playing faves.
no subject
They're my favourites because they used to be my team. Before that, they had to prove themselves to me, too. [ and to the director, but carolina wasn't ever going to trust them to have her back if they weren't the sort of soldiers that they are. her tone is pretty dry, but she has the sort of dry that can be on the scathing or playful side of sarcastic with no real difference. ] If you think I didn't expect them to fail on their first missions with me, maybe you can ask them. Might make them laugh.

The suit - the armor, that is - is completely unfamiliar to him so there's an appraising look before Carolina questions his presence and Cassian nods, curt. ]
I am. Beta team.

Yet, because he's Lee Adama, he feels that moral pull that even though they aren't his people, he still needs to protect them. After going so long with a constantly dwindling number of human beings left, it's a difficult thing to let go. So, when the alert comes in, and after a few hours of deliberation, he goes to volunteer.
Later, he guesses because of his experience that throws him into a leadership spot he wasn't really expecting. It's fine, though. He's lead missions before. After meeting with his team, he seeks out the other leader, already knowing it's imperative to get to know her before embarking on the mission. He's dressed in his own fatigues and feels incredibly short when he finds her. ]
Carolina? [ He holds his hand out; a small lopsided smile on his lips. ] I'm Lee. Taking point on Beta.
no subject
Nice to meet you. [ or that's a nice, pleasant line to use, at least, as carolina takes her hand back. ] You ever lead a mission like this before?

ill-fatedlaser gun.]You think we'll run out of ammunition?
[Asking the nearest person from either her team or another as she inspects the hard light knife, twisting and twirling it by the grip. They've still got a little time before being deployed.]
no subject
[ and here's the team lead, checking in. carolina still has her helmet off, pretending to be a people person. of course, with a response like that, it's clear she's not the most reassuring of leaders. ]
no subject
That's par for the course given her past team "excursions".]
Guess we can deal when the time comes then.
[April slides the new knifes into the sheath on her suit, right next to her tanto.]
April O'Neil. [She holds out her hand.] Nice to meet you.

Oh, we most certainly will run out of ammunition, as well as energy and water. I calculate the power in this laser weapon, as absurd as it is, will be limited, and the amount of other weapons given to us will run out, seeing as they are projectile.
[He paused, then said flatly.] You should be more concerned about running out of water.
no subject
Are you always a ray of sunshine and positivity?
[Hardly any irritation. It's practically the kind of answer she'd expect back home from Donnie. She does take the briefest of glances down at his midsection out of sheer habit from previous dealings with robots.]

That's a bit like asking if night will fall. [ After all, the amount they had been given was minuscule, which she wasn't entirely happy about. It meant they would have to be a little more methodical with what they were doing, or make it a bolt in and bolt out kind of mission. Usually Re-L was more the type to be methodical, to plot out where guards were and pick her favored paths, but.. considering this was an alien planet, with alien guards and the lot?
There's definitely only a very small chance that they would be able to approach things in that manner. She stops and checks her wording, tucking a sheet of dark hair behind her ear before turning back to whatever she's fiddling with in what looks to be a holographic set up journal of some kind. ]
However, if we work the teams out well it may not be that big of an issue.
no subject
[She doesn't sound too worried or very serious about her light mocking.]
Beta team's going to have the cover it needs, I've certainly got experience doing that. Almost signed up along with you and the others though.
[One eyebrow raises.] You are on the Beta team, right? [Maybe checking the team rosters one more time wouldn't hurt either.]

Plus, he's trying not to cause conflict with Lee. It'll be easier for everyone if there aren't any Cylon-human flareups. So he's hanging back, close enough to hear what Re-L says. ]
Probably not. [ The corner of his mouth quirks in a half-smile. ] That's a good plan, though. You've done this before? Generally speaking, I mean.

[ Going over the mission plans in her head seemed a better thing to do than make idle conversation with people she didn't even known and, well.. who knew what this would bring or who would or wouldn't make it back from it. No use in getting friendly, as cut-throat as it sounded. ]
You never know, but I doubt we'd recognize anything for sale or have the necessary funds.. [ She nods at his question, at least bothering to explain. ]
Currently the ship my travel companions and I use needs that to restock it's water and food supplies. Mostly food.. I can't tell you how much I don't wish to survive on a diet of beans and ginger ale again.
